Section 1: Position Summary

The Renewal Sales Director is responsible for leading and executing the strategy to retain Core Retirement’s largest and most complex clients. This role is critical to growing revenue by improving retention outcomes across large-plan clients and will leverage deep organizational knowledge, strong leadership presence, and broad internal followership to influence outcomes, mobilize cross-functional support, and drive disciplined retention practices.


**We have 1 opening for this position that is available to be remote, preferably on the East Coast.**


 

Section 2: Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

Lead Large-Plan Retention Strategy 

  • Own and execute the retention strategy for Core Retirement’s largest and most strategically important clients 

  • Personally engage in high-risk renewal situations, bringing senior-level influence to drive successful outcomes 

  • Develop and lead tailored retention strategies that address pricing, service, relationship, and competitive dynamics 
     

Influence Through Leadership and Relationships 

  • Leverage established internal relationships and credibility to align cross-functional teams around retention priorities 

  • Serve as a senior leader and trusted advisor in complex renewal discussions 

  • Partner closely with Sales, Relationship Management, and Client Service leaders to strengthen client engagement 
     

Protect and Grow Revenue 

  • Focus on reducing attrition and protecting high-value revenue streams within the large-plan segment 

  • Identify trends and root causes of client loss and work across the organization to address them proactively 

  • Support strategic pricing and positioning decisions to maximize revenue and client retention while maintaining financial discipline 

  • Improve client economics by introducing additional services and products via the renewal process
     

Drive Cross-Functional Alignment 

  • Work across Sales, Operations, Product, Technology and Client Service to address systemic drivers of attrition 

  • Champion improvements in service delivery and client experience that directly impact retention outcomes 

  • Help institutionalize a proactive, data-driven retention model 
     

Enhance Visibility and Accountability 

  • Provide clear, actionable insights to senior leadership on retention risk, pipeline, and outcomes 

  • Establish a structured approach to identifying and intervening with “at-risk” clients earlier in the lifecycle 

  • Drive accountability across teams for retention results 
     

Success Measures 

  • Improved retention rates across large-plan clients 

  • Reduction in revenue loss due to client attrition 

  • Stronger alignment and execution across teams supporting high-value clients

  • Earlier identification and successful mitigation of retention risk 

  • Visible leadership and impact across the Core Retirement organization

  • Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a high-performance retirement plan sales organization

  • Proven ability to think strategically and execute tactically.

  • Effective organizational, leadership, decision making and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in sales tools and technologies (e.g. CRM, PowerBI, content management systems).

  • Strong leadership presence and ability to influence without direct authority 

  • Deep credibility across the organization and with senior stakeholders 

  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset focused on outcomes 

  • The ability to navigate complex, high-pressure client situations with confidence and clarity 

  • A passion for strengthening the business through improved client retention 
     

The national average salary is $175,000 - $200,000, exclusive of any bonuses and benefits. This salary range represents the low and high end for this position. Actual salary offered will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, performance, and internal pay alignment.
