Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a Principal Consultant who brings deep expertise in business analysis and process transformation within laboratory and regulated environments. This role is responsible for leading clients through the definition of future-state workflows and business processes across laboratory and quality systems.

This is a hands-on, client-facing role that blends strategic advisory with detailed business analysis. The Principal Consultant works closely with stakeholders to understand current operations, define optimized future states, and translate business needs into clear, implementable requirements—without operating purely as a technical architect.

What This Role Is (and Is Not)

  • Is: A senior, hands-on business consultant who leads process definition and requirement development
  • Is: A trusted advisor who can guide clients toward best practices and scalable operating models
  • Is Not: A pure solution architect focused primarily on system design or configuration
  • Is Not: A passive facilitator—this role actively drives structure, decisions, and outcomes

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead current-state assessments and facilitate the design of future-state workflows across laboratory, quality, and scientific data systems
  • Conduct deep discovery engagements, including stakeholder interviews, workshops, and process walkthroughs
  • Analyze business processes to identify inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for standardization and optimization
  • Define and document business requirements, process maps, and user journeys using structured methodologies (e.g., BPMN, user stories)
  • Translate business needs into functional requirements that can be executed by technical and configuration teams
  • Provide best-practice guidance on system-enabled process design across platforms such as LIMS, ELN, QMS, and related systems
  • Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring alignment and clarity
  • Support solution shaping and roadmap development, ensuring business priorities are clearly represented
  • Drive decision-making and alignment during ambiguous or complex phases of transformation
  • Mentor junior consultants and contribute to delivery methodologies and reusable assets

Required Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of experience in business analysis, consulting, or process transformation
  • Advanced English
  • Strong experience working with laboratory, quality, or other regulated operational systems (e.g., LIMS, ELN, QMS, MES, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional workshops and discovery efforts
  • Deep expertise in requirements elicitation, process modeling, and workflow design
  • Experience operating in regulated environments (e.g., GxP, ISO)
  • Proven ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotech, or manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with system implementation lifecycles and validation approaches (CSV/CSA)
  • Experience contributing to digital transformation or system modernization initiatives
  • Relevant certifications (CBAP, PMP, Lean/Six Sigma, etc.)

Key Competencies

  • Structured problem solving and analytical rigor
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder alignment skills
  • Ability to bring clarity to ambiguous environments
  • Business-first mindset with system awareness (but not system-centric)
  • Influence without authority at senior levels

How This Role Is Leveled

At the Principal level, success is defined by:

  • Leading end-to-end discovery and future-state definition efforts
  • Independently driving client conversations at the director/senior manager level
  • Producing high-quality, implementation-ready requirements and process designs
  • Shaping outcomes—not just documenting them
