Job description

This is a remote position.

Lyceum College invites applications from qualified, committed, and academically accomplished professionals to serve as Content Developers for selected modules within the Bachelor of Education (BEd) qualification in the Faculty of Education.

Content Developers play a vital role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality learning materials and assessments that support student success in a distance learning environment. Successful applicants will contribute to the development of academically rigorous, engaging, and student-centred learning resources aligned with South African higher education standards, institutional quality assurance requirements, and regulatory frameworks.


Specialisation Area

The Faculty of Education is seeking Content Developers for the following modules:

  • English First Additional Language Teaching and Learning 1

  • English First Additional Language Teaching and Learning 2

  • English First Additional Language Teaching and Learning 3

  • isiZulu Home Language Teaching and Learning 2

  • isiZulu Home Language Teaching and Learning 3

  • Mathematics Teaching and Learning 3

  • Life Skills Teaching and Learning 2

  • Life Skills Teaching and Learning 3

  • Physical and Health Education

  • Educational Psychology 3: The Psychology of Learning

  • Educational Psychology 3: Advanced Child Development in Context

  • Foundations of Education

  • Teaching Practice 5

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive study guides, learning materials, and assessment activities in accordance with approved module outlines and institutional templates.

  • Design learning content that aligns with programme outcomes, curriculum requirements, institutional standards, and NQF expectations.

  • Develop valid, reliable, and academically rigorous formative and summative assessments.

  • Ensure learning materials are current, academically sound, and incorporate relevant research and best practices.

  • Develop content that is suitable for distance and blended learning environments.

  • Ensure language accuracy, academic integrity, instructional quality, and consistency throughout all learning materials.

  • Collaborate with Programme Coordinators, Subject Matter Experts, Editors, and the Quality Assurance Office throughout the development process.

  • Revise and update learning materials based on academic feedback and quality assurance recommendations.

  • Ensure compliance with institutional quality assurance standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Meet all development milestones and submission deadlines.

Requirements

Required Competencies

Applicants must demonstrate:
  • Strong subject knowledge in the relevant discipline.

  • Excellent academic writing, curriculum development, and instructional design skills.

  • Sound understanding of curriculum development and assessment practices within higher education.

  • Knowledge of South African higher education policies, teaching and learning practices, and curriculum frameworks.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to academic quality.

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines.

  • Excellent communication, planning, and collaboration skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital learning platforms.



Minimum Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Education or the relevant discipline related to the module(s) applied for (essential).

  • A recognised teaching qualification will be advantageous where applicable.

  • At least two years' experience in higher education, curriculum development, content development, academic writing, or learning material development.

  • Demonstrable experience in developing study guides, learning materials, or assessments within higher education.

  • Experience in distance or online education will serve as an advantage.

  • Familiarity with South African higher education quality assurance frameworks.

  • Computer literacy with access to a reliable internet connection and a laptop or desktop computer.


Added Advantage

  • A Doctoral qualification in the relevant field or current doctoral studies.

  • Previous experience developing learning materials for private higher education institutions.

  • Experience in Long Distance and e-Learning environments.

  • Knowledge of learning management systems and educational technologies.
