Job description

Founded in 2010, Hispanic Access Foundation is a 501(c)(3) national nonprofit organization that connects Latinos with partners and opportunities to improve their lives and create an equitable society. Hispanic Access’ Forestry Program manages approximately $4 million annually in passthrough grants and oversees programming designed to increase urban tree canopy and access to green spaces, and the many benefits they provide, with a focus on disadvantaged communities. This program will foster new relationships and build capacity in existing community collaboratives composed of faith-leaders, community-based organizations, and other local stakeholders across the country.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Grant Portfolio Manager is a full-time, exempt position responsible for managing a portfolio of forestry subawards, ensuring strong program performance, compliance with federal requirements, and high-quality technical assistance for grantees. This role oversees the full life cycle of grants, from agreement execution and monitoring to reporting and closeout, with a strong focus on supporting emerging or high-risk grantees that are new to federal funding.

The Grant Portfolio Manager does not supervise staff and reports directly to the Forestry Program Director.

ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant and Agreement Management

  • Manage subaward agreements in alignment with 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance and organizational policies.
  • Conduct risk-assessments, including financial risk analysis, due diligence, and verification of required documentation.
  • Support development and review of compliant budgets, scopes of work, and subaward modification packets.
  • Coordinate workflow with the Forestry Program Director, Finance, and Compliance Support Specialist to ensure timely execution of awards and smooth administrative processes.

Portfolio Oversight and Technical Assistance

  • Manage a portfolio of grantees and serve as the day-to-day point of contact for programmatic, reporting, and basic compliance inquiries.
  • Provide capacity-building technical assistance, particularly for community-based and faith-based organizations new to federal funding and cost-reimbursement processes.
  • Monitor project activities, benchmarks, and deliverables to ensure alignment with approved scopes of work.
  • Conduct initial reviews of progress reports, reimbursement requests, and financial documentation prior to submission for compliance and finance review.
  • Identify performance or compliance concerns early and escalate issues to the Forestry Program Director and Compliance Support Specialist as appropriate.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure grantees follow subaward requirements and meet all reporting deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Support Specialist by flagging potential compliance issues and implementing recommended corrective or risk-mitigation measures.
  • Prepare draft corrective action recommendations for Director approval when grantee performance issues arise.
  • Track project implementation progress, deliverables, and expenditures, maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation for audit readiness.
  • Develop programmatic summaries, portfolio dashboards, and reporting materials for internal leadership, agency partners, and funders.

Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with grantees, partner organizations, and community coalitions.
  • Coordinate closely with the Forestry Program Director to support strategic program goals and ensure strong grantee performance across the portfolio.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization—including finance, compliance, operations, and communications—to support program success and consistency of messaging.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating grantee meetings, webinars, training sessions, and site visits.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, business, public administration, finance), or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in grant portfolio management, subaward monitoring, or federal grant administration.
  • Demonstrated experience with 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance) and cost-reimbursement grant processes.
  • Experience working with organizations new to federal grants and providing technical assistance to high-risk grantees.
  • Demonstrated capacity-building mindset and ability to support grantees with varying levels of organizational capacity.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and project management skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate compliance requirements into accessible guidance.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar grant management databases preferred.
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.

LOCATION

The is a fully remote position with occasional travel required. While the location of this position is flexible, employees must reside in the United States.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time, exempt employee position with an annual salary range of $75,000–$85,000, commensurate with experience. In addition to working remotely, Hispanic Access offers full-time employees a generous benefits package that includes a 100% paid health, dental, and vision for the individual, an unlimited vacation policy, 10 sick days per year, 13 paid holidays, a monthly phone/internet stipend and a 401(k) plan with employer match.
