Insurance Verification, Disability

and FMLA Support

Remote | Neurology Facility | 40 Hours/Week | $6/Hour

Role Overview

The Virtual Medical Assistant will support a neurology facility with insurance verification, disability-related documentation, medical records requests, patient communication, and general administrative duties.

This role requires someone who is highly organized, comfortable handling sensitive patient information, and capable of managing multiple requests accurately and professionally. The ideal candidate should have prior experience supporting a healthcare facility, particularly with insurance, patient documentation, medical records, and electronic health record systems.

Key Responsibilities

Insurance Verification

  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, coverage, benefits, and financial responsibility.

  • Contact insurance companies to clarify incomplete or conflicting information.

  • Document verification results accurately in the patient's electronic health record.

Disability and ADA Accommodation Requests (Americans with Disabilities Act)

  • Receive and organize disability-related and ADA accommodation requests.

  • Collect required documents and route requests to the appropriate provider or team member.

  • Track pending requests and follow up to support timely completion.

FMLA Documentation (Family and Medical Leave Act)

  • Receive, review, and organize FMLA forms and supporting documents.

  • Upload forms to the patient record and route them to the provider for clinical completion.

  • Track deadlines and securely return completed forms to authorized recipients.

Medical Records Requests

  • Receive and review medical records requests and patient authorizations.

  • Retrieve and organize the requested records according to facility procedures.

  • Securely release records and document all actions taken.


Patient and Telephone Support

  • Answer incoming calls and respond to patient questions within the scope of the role.

  • Document messages accurately and create telephone or office encounters.

  • Route clinical concerns and urgent requests to the appropriate care team member.

Electronic Health Record Support

  • Create and update office, telephone, and administrative encounters.

  • Upload forms, authorizations, and supporting documents to the correct patient chart.

  • Assign messages and tasks to the appropriate provider or department.

General Administrative Support

  • Monitor assigned work queues, messages, forms, and follow-up lists.

  • Assist with scheduling, data entry, document preparation, and other administrative tasks.

  • Follow established workflows and escalate concerns requiring clinical or supervisory review.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Virtual Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Receptionist, Insurance Verification Specialist, or similar healthcare support professional.

  • Experience verifying insurance eligibility and benefits.

  • Familiarity with disability requests, ADA accommodation requests, FMLA forms, or medical records processing.

  • Experience using an electronic health record or electronic medical record system.

  • Strong telephone communication and patient service skills.

  • Ability to create and document office or telephone encounters accurately.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple pending requests.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, patient confidentiality, and secure handling of medical information.

  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures.

  • Reliable internet connection, computer equipment, and a quiet professional workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting a neurology practice or neurological care facility.

  • Experience communicating with insurance companies, employers, disability administrators, or records departments.

  • Familiarity with medical terminology, particularly terminology commonly used in neurology.

  • Experience handling high volumes of calls, forms, patient messages, and documentation requests.

  • Experience working remotely with a provider or multidisciplinary care team.

  • Follow up consistently on incomplete, pending, or time-sensitive requests.

  • Protect patient privacy and comply with all confidentiality requirements.

  • Escalate clinical questions, urgent concerns, and exceptions to the appropriate team member.

  • Provide dependable administrative support to help the neurology facility operate efficiently.
