Job description

JOB SUMMARY 

We are seeking a dependable and customer-focused Barista to join our hospitality team at a remote camp on Alaska's North Slope. This position is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee beverages, specialty drinks, snacks, and retail food items while maintaining exceptional customer service standards and strict food safety and sanitation practices. 

Coffee shop operations are structured as camp-based coffee kiosks or cafΓ©-style service areas. Baristas operate within a counter-service retail environment utilizing point-of-sale systems and inventory controls while ensuring consistency, efficiency, and quality in all guest interactions. 

The ideal candidate has prior barista and retail experience, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented remote camp environment. 

  • Work Location: Remote Camp, North Slope, Alaska
  • Rotational Schedule: 3 weeks on/3 weeks off or 2 weeks on/2 weeks off; varies by job site
  • Work shifts: 12 hours/day (40 hrs straight time + 44 hrs OT per work week).
  • Travel: Flights between Anchorage and the job site are arranged and paid for by the company
  • Housing & Meals: Included (free)

    JOB DUTIES

    • Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based beverages, teas, smoothies, and other specialty drinks according to established recipes and quality standards.  
    • Provide courteous, professional, and efficient customer service to all guests and camp residents. 
    • Operate point-of-sale systems and accurately process sales transactions. 
    • Maintain product displays, beverage stations, and retail areas in a clean and organized manner. 
    • Monitor inventory levels and communicate needs to supervisors. 
    • Stock, rotate, and label products in accordance with food safety requirements. 
    • Maintain sanitation standards for equipment, counters, beverage stations, and food preparation areas. 
    • Prepare grab-and-go items, and light food offerings as assigned. 
    • Track sales, waste, and inventory usage utilizing established procedures. 
    • Support special events, catering requests, and client functions as required. 
    • Assist with receiving, stocking, and organizing deliveries. 
    • Promote and maintain a safe work environment by following DUS safety policies and wearing required PPE. 
    • Adapt to changing camp populations and operational requirements. 
    • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner. 
    • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned. 
    • Willingness to work at various locations as required. 

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be 18 years of age
    • Alaska Food Handler Card 
    • Previous experience using commercial grade equipment in coffee shop operations. 
    • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices 
    • Ability to operate retail or point-of-sale systems. 
    • Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English
    • Reliable access to a smartphone capable of running apps for scheduling, 
    • timekeeping (clocking in/out), shift communications, and time-off requests. 
    • Must be able to pass the Company’s pre-employment screening process, including drug screen, criminal background investigation, and post-offer physical/fitness for duty evaluation. 

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience operating point-of-sale systems. 
    • Previous remote camp or remote-site experience. 
    • Experience handling cash transactions and inventory controls.  

    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND EXPECTATIONS 

    • Work is performed within a counter-service retail environment in a coffee kiosk or cafΓ©-style service areas within a remote camp.
    • Ability to remain on your feet for long shifts and perform repetitive physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
    • Willingness to work day or night shift.
    • Must be comfortable living and working in a remote location with shared housing accommodations and communal facilities.
    • Teamwork, reliability, and a positive attitude are essential
    • Strict adherence to safety, hygiene, and conduct standards
