Job description

JAVA DEVELOPER

Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Java Developer to support a mission-critical program for a Department of Defense (DoD) customer. The ideal candidate has a strong background in Java development, front-end web technologies, and experience working within secure, enterprise environments. This role will collaborate closely with technical leads, system engineers, and other developers to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable software solutions.
Candidate will be part of a team responsible for all aspects of system development and maintenance including requirements gathering, system analysis and design, documentation, coding, testing, implementation, monitoring production jobs, researching and resolving production problems, dealing with end users and hosting sites to resolve issues and providing technical support to end users and other developers.

Job Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications supporting DoD systems
• Implement front-end features using JavaScript and CSS
• Work with Apache Struts frameworks to enhance and maintain existing applications
• Troubleshoot and resolve software defects in a timely manner
• Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to meet project milestones and ensure quality
• Follow DoD security and development standards, documentation requirements, and best practices

• Uses expertise to design develop, code, test, and debug software.
• May work in one or several areas, such as equipment or software design, engineering evaluation or test, configuration management procedures, statistical analysis and modeling.
• Works with users to define existing or new system scope and objectives.
• Provides analytical support and technical advice during the conceptualization, development, and implementation phases.
• Plans and schedules new applications systems projects with user, systems software, and computer center operations personnel, including the identification of objectives, time frames, costs, and Client requirements.
• Performs tasks necessary to ensure the identification and documentation of hazards within software systems using various analysis tools and techniques.
• Reviews and evaluates systems and software for adherence to government or commercial directives, standards, guidelines, and criteria concerning software safety and systems safety.
• Confirms design mitigations are captured in the design and its documentation and verifies implementation.
• Identify problems uncovered by testing or customer feedback and correct problems.
• Evaluate code to ensure it is valid, meets industry standards and is compatible with devices or operation systems.

Required Qualifications:
• Active Public Trust Clearance, or ability to obtain one
• Strong hands-on experience with:
– Java
– JavaScript
– CSS
– Apache Struts
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming and enterprise application development
• Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git)
• Solid understanding of secure coding practices and application hardening
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting DoD or other federal programs
• Familiarity with JSP, Tomcat, or related Java web technologies
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills


Education/Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent training required.
• 5-7 years experience required.
