Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Academic Specialist is a critical member of Post University’s Center for Academic Success. Our team of Academic Specialists provides one-on-one support to all Post students throughout their academic program. We aim to engage first-year students to make them aware of their support system at the university and build supportive relationships with them that carry through to graduation. Each Academic Specialist monitors potential academic barriers related to their content area, then provides support or resources to help our students overcome these and be successful.

This is a hybrid position that requires a combination of on-campus work in Waterbury, CT and remote work from a home office. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required to support campus events, including Commencement, New Student Weekend, Orientation, and other institutional activities.

Remote Work Requirements:
When working remotely, employees must connect their assigned equipment directly to their home router using a wired Ethernet connection. Wireless (Wi-Fi) connections are not supported. Post University will provide a 50-foot Ethernet cable for this purpose.

Candidates must maintain a reliable high-speed internet connection that meets the following minimum requirements:

  • Download speed: 25 Mbps
  • Upload speed: 15 Mbps
  • Ping rate: Less than 60 ms

A minimum upload speed of 15 Mbps is required to ensure consistent performance of the University's phone and communication systems. Candidates may test their internet speed at www.speedtest.net.

In addition, remote employees must have a dedicated, private workspace that supports confidentiality, productivity, and uninterrupted job performance. Home network and hardware configurations must meet the requirements established for the employee's assigned equipment and departmental role.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide timely support to students (mostly first-year students in FYE110, FYE120, FYE130, and FYE140) in general college skills, including computer skills, time management, navigating the online learning environment, etc. via phone, email, and/or text.
  • Engage in proactive outreach efforts for students in the first-year courses, specifically to encourage students who have participated in their course but have fallen behind in weekly assignments, to promote persistence.
  • Monitor term-to-term persistence among identified students to help keep students on track to their graduate date goals.
  • Act as a “concierge” for the department by fielding incoming requests for support and appropriately guiding them to the proper resources or personnel.
  • Work in conjunction with other Academic Specialists in the CAS in developing communication and outreach plans for supporting Post University students.
  • Collect and report data and metrics analyzing outreach and student success outcomes.
  • Create and maintain academic resources to assist Post students toward being successful.
  • Assist students with written assignments, often through providing paper reviews and pointed APA Style support.
  • Monitor any potential concerns around the misuse of generative AI, as Post University promotes the responsible and ethical use of AI.
