Regional Product Support Engineer - UK

Minimum of 2 days per week onsite in Cambridge, UK

As a Regional Product Support (RPS) Engineer here at Illumina in the UK, you will deliver advanced technical expertise to support our field service teams and technical support specialists across the wider EMEALA region. You will troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex issues across sophisticated electro‑mechanical instruments, software, and networked systems, stepping in when first‑line support requires deeper technical investigation. In this highly collaborative role, you will partner closely with global teams including Manufacturing, Quality, and Global Product Support to drive timely resolution and enhance product performance. You may also participate in customer installations, training, and specialist support activities for highly technical platforms.

Why You:

You will have a background in Electronic, Embedded Systems, Computer, or Mechatronic Engineering and bring considerable experience working with advanced instrumentation or complex electro-mechanical systems. You are naturally curious, enjoy investigating difficult technical issues, and take pride in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing systems where the root cause is not immediately obvious.

You will have the communication skills to advise, influence, and guide frontline teams, adapting your style to suit varied audiences, from engineers to regional stakeholders. You are someone who takes ownership, acts with integrity, and thrives in environments where you can innovate with purpose. Experience leading technical workshops, mentoring engineers, or serving as a subject matter expert would be highly advantageous. A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or equivalent experience in a related Engineering field is required.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Own and drive technical elevations to timely effective resolution, working closely with frontline support and with global teams, e.g. Manufacturing, Quality, Global Product Support.

  • Expected to develop deep technical expertise across a range of product lines and to become a recognized expert across the region. Ways to demonstrate expertise would be by running SME groups, designing and delivering technical workshops, etc.

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose Linux-based systems using command-line tools, investigating issues spanning software applications, operating systems, networking, firmware, and instrument hardware.

  • Will be expected to actively participate in & influence projects that will affect EMEALA, e.g. new product rollouts or process changes.

  • As a secondary responsibility, may be required to become a certified Engineering trainer for select platforms and to deliver courses across the region.

  • Applies advanced wide-ranging experience and professional knowledge to provide solutions in creative and effective ways.

  • Directs the application of existing principles and guides development of new policies and ideas. Understands the interrelationships of different disciplines.

  • Works on complex assignments where problem solving requires in-depth evaluation of varying factors and practices/procedures must be determined.

  • Enhances internal and external working relationships and networks with key contacts outside area of expertise.

  • Adapts style to differing audiences and frequently advises others on complex matters that relate to the wider business and require persuasion.

  • May train and mentor junior level staff.

  • Work is reviewed upon completion and is consistent with departmental objectives.

  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Experience/Education:

  • Typically requires extensive related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or considerable related experience and a Master’s degree

INDEUR

The estimated base salary range for the Regional Product Support Engineer - UK role based in United Kingdom is GBP 52,900 - 79,300.

The range reflects long‑term growth in the role; therefore, most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. This salary range applies to the primary posting location listed above. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range will be updated accordingly. Compensation ranges for other locations will differ to reflect local market competitiveness and will be shared with candidates if applicable during the recruitment process.

Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
