Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Remote Civil Engineer to support site and land development projects in New Jersey. This role involves performing civil engineering design tasks such as conceptual layouts, grading, drainage, stormwater management, and hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, while preparing and revising construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with engineers, drafters, and project teams to produce accurate, constructible plans, assist with permitting and agency coordination, and support projects through design completion. This position is well suited for an early-career civil engineer with strong technical skills, knowledge of New Jersey land use regulations, and the ability to manage responsibilities independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform civil engineering design tasks including conceptual layouts, grading, drainage, and stormwater design.
  • Prepare, review, and revise civil construction drawings and plan sets using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Develop and modify surfaces, alignments, profiles, and corridors within Civil 3D.
  • Perform stormwater calculations and assist with hydrologic and hydraulic analyses.
  • Coordinate design elements with engineers, drafters, and other disciplines to ensure accurate and constructible plans.
  • Support permitting and approval processes by addressing agency comments as directed.
  • Work alongside office staff and management to complete projects within deadlines and budgets.
  • Participate in project meetings via Microsoft Teams.
  • Perform other engineering-related tasks as required.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (written and spoken).
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (required).
  • 1–3 years of civil engineering experience, specifically in New Jersey land development or site/civil projects.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Proven proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D (required), AutoCAD (STB files), Bluebeam; preferred experience with HydraCAD and HydroFlow.
  • Experience with stormwater management, grading, drainage, and site design.
  • Strong understanding of New Jersey city, county, and state land use and permitting regulations.
  • Ability to design site layouts from concept through completion.
  • Strong attention to detail with sound analytical and engineering judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Teams.
  • Sound judgment and the capacity to comprehend and execute instructions promptly with minimal supervision.
  • Reliable computer (Windows 10 or newer), two monitors, and stable high-speed internet.
