Position Overview:

The Director, Compliance provides strategic leadership and oversight across Compliance Operations, Testing, and Quality Assurance functions. This role is responsible for ensuring the effective execution of the Compliance Management System through regulatory monitoring, branch audits, operational compliance activities, and examination readiness. The Director, Compliance partners with senior and executive leaders to identify and mitigate regulatory risk, enhance internal controls, facilitate timely corrective action, and promote compliance excellence across the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight of Compliance Operations and Testing programs, including workflow management, daily operational escalations, and performance metrics.
  • Evaluate test scripts, sampling methodologies, remediation responses, testing schedules, and new testing initiatives to ensure consistency, effectiveness, and alignment with compliance objectives.
  • Improve and monitor compliance operations metrics to evaluate workloads, timeliness, service levels, issue validation, and the effectiveness of operational processes.
  • Maintain operational ownership and monitoring of RESPA Day 3, ECOA Day 30, HPML, Jumbo, Illinois APLD, KMT Auto Alerts, Jira tickets, and related compliance support.
  • Partner with Legal, Technology, and business leaders to strengthen compliance controls.
  • Support Branch Audit activities and coordinate the timely collection of audit deliverables.
  • Monitor compliance findings and corrective actions through validation, resolution, and final disposition.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for all testing activities.
  • Coordinate the development and presentation of compliance reporting packages, including material findings, emerging risks, and corrective action status.
  • Analyze findings from regulatory agency audits and state examinations, coordinate responses, and document resolutions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop domestic and offshore team members while promoting accountability, collaboration, and operational effectiveness.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 7+ years of experience within a financial institution, preferably a large or complex organization.
  • 5+ years of experience in risk management or consumer compliance, specifically related to mortgage originations.
  • ACES, Encompass, and Jira experience, preferred.
  • Experience with or knowledge of loan operations, including processing, underwriting, closing, and quality assurance.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state mortgage lending regulations including, but not limited to, Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, QM/ATR, RESPA, TILA, TRID, ECOA, HMDA, GLBA, Fair Lending, UDAAP, and SAFE Act.
  • Advanced knowledge of Mavent, preferred.
  • Excellent communication, management, and leadership skills.
  • Advanced prioritization and time management skills.
