Location: Remote (with occasional travel to client sites and Athena hub cities)

At Athena, our Actuarial Analysts don’t just build models, they work side-by-side with experienced consultants and clients to shape solutions for public healthcare programs. You’ll contribute directly to project strategy, support new business development, and grow your consulting toolkit every step of the way. This position offers a strong foundation for an actuarial consulting career, with opportunities to advance through progressively challenging roles.

What You’ll Do

You'll be a vital member of a collaborative client team, supporting various projects and delivering actuarial insights that drive real-world outcomes. You’ll gain hands-on experience, sharpen your business acumen, and grow under the mentorship of senior analysts and actuaries.

Your key responsibilities:

• Analyze healthcare data, financial statements, and other work products to inform recommendations

• Build and maintain Excel models and actuarial tools

• Contribute to client reports and strategic planning

• Ask thoughtful questions and help shape solutions for complex healthcare challenges

• Join Athena community and strategy meetings to help strengthen our culture and mission

What We’re Looking For

Must-Haves:

  • 0–2 years of actuarial experience through school, internships, or early career

  • Progress toward ASA or FSA designation

  • Strong problem-solving instincts and a passion for learning

  • Commitment to Athena’s mission and values

  • Comfort working independently in a remote-first environment

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with Medicaid, healthcare, or other public health programs

  • Familiarity with programming tools like SAS, SQL, or MacroVB
