POSITION SUMMARY

The Impact Associate supports Sarona's impact measurement and reporting, and learning efforts across its investment funds, Technical Assistance (TA) programs, and ecosystem-building initiatives.

Working closely with the Director of Impact and collaborating with internal teams, fund managers, portfolio companies, investors, donors, and service providers, the Impact Associate plays a key role in collecting, managing, analyzing, and reporting impact data. The role helps ensure that Sarona generates reliable evidence on the social, environmental, and economic impact of its investments and development initiatives.

 

The successful candidate will maintain the impact data systems, support portfolio and program level reporting, develop dashboards and data products, contribute to impact studies and case studies, and help translate data and stakeholder insights into clear, compelling narratives for donors, investors, and partners.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with both quantitative data and qualitative information. Sarona offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, with salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Impact measurement, monitoring & data management (40%)

  • Collect, validate, and manage impact data from fund managers, portfolio companies, and TA partners.
  • Maintain impact databases, reporting systems, and data collection tools to ensure data quality, consistency, and completeness.
  • Support periodic impact reporting for investors, donors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare portfolio-level analyses across key impact themes including employment, gender, climate, financial inclusion, and governance.
  • Develop dashboards, charts, and visualizations that communicate performance and impact results.
  • Support data requests, reporting cycles, and impact measurement processes across Sarona's funds and programs.
  • Identify trends, risks, gaps, and opportunities emerging from impact data.

2. Knowledge Management, Learning & Impact Communication (35%)

  • Develop learning briefs, case studies, outcome stories and other knowledge products that communicate impact results, lessons learned, innovations, best practices, and emerging insights from Sarona's investments, TA programs, and ecosystem-building initiatives.
  • Translate quantitative data, qualitative evidence, and stakeholder perspectives into compelling narratives for investors, donors, partners, and other audiences.
  • Maintain knowledge repositories and support organizational knowledge-sharing.
  • Support the dissemination of thought leadership, impact stories, and knowledge products across multiple channels.
  • Contribute to annual impact reports, investor reports, donor reports, and other external communications as required.

3. ESG and Impact due diligence & portfolio support (15%)

  • Support ESGI and impact due diligence for prospective fund investments.
  • Assist with ESGI assessments, gap analyses, and monitoring of TA plans.
  • Support fund managers and portfolio companies in strengthening ESG and impact management practices.

4. Monitoring, evaluation, learning & research (10%)

  • Support the design and implementation of MEL activities across investment funds, TA programs, and ecosystem building initiatives.
  • Conduct research on impact investing, climate finance, gender lens investing, and inclusive economic development.
  • Support continuous improvement of Sarona's impact management practices and programs.



QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Sustainability, Business, Social Sciences, International Development, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in impact measurement and reporting, knowledge management, ESG assessment, research, consulting, or related field.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience developing dashboards, reports, and data visualization.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including managing and analyzing complex datasets.
  • Excellent writing skills with experience producing reports, case studies, research summaries, and other knowledge products.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Professional proficiency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in impact investing, private equity, venture capital, private debt, or development finance.
  • Experience working across emerging markets.
  • Knowledge of gender lens investing, climate finance, ESG integration, or inclusive business models.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and program management tools.
