Job description

At Chemin, we build the data pipelines and reinforcement learning workflows that power autonomous vehicles, robotics, and the next generation AI agents.

As a Part-Time Project Associate, you will support the Delivery Team at Chemin in managing AI data annotation projects, particularly projects involving Mandarin and Cantonese language data.

You will work closely with our Project Delivery Executives to ensure our community of Data Annotators delivers high-quality work that supports AI development across multiple industries.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys driving projects forward, coordinating people, and bringing structure to complex work. You should be comfortable planning ahead, communicating frequently, solving operational challenges, and taking ownership of your responsibilities.

You may also support client communication, project updates, and the clarification of requirements. We are looking for someone who can work well with people, demonstrate initiative, and remain dependable when projects become challenging.

Fresh graduates, students, and interns are highly encouraged to apply. We are looking for people who are hungry to learn, experiment, grow, and build a strong foundation in project management.

Work Arrangements

  • Fully remote or hybrid (optional office days in Plaza Sentral on Mondays and Fridays)
  • Minimum 3-month contract, renewable based on performance
  • Immediate start preferred
  • Candidates may be based in locations with up to a four-hour time difference from Malaysia

Responsibilities

You will support the operational delivery of AI projects by:

  • Supporting Project Delivery Executives in coordinating project operations, people, timelines, and deliverables
  • Planning ahead and helping the project team maintain clear priorities, schedules, and next steps
  • Assisting with project setup, including workflows, documentation, trackers, guidelines, and communication channels
  • Guiding and supporting our remote Data Annotator community on project tasks
  • Responding to annotator questions and clarifying project instructions
  • Monitoring project progress and identifying potential delays, risks, or quality issues
  • Performing quality checks to maintain accuracy and consistency
  • Coordinating work involving Mandarin and Cantonese language data
  • Working with regional variations of Mandarin used in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Mainland China
  • Supporting work involving Cantonese used in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore
  • Communicating regularly with internal team members to ensure everyone remains aligned
  • Supporting client communication, project updates, and the clarification of client requirements
  • Managing project administration and operational tasks accurately and on time
  • Taking initiative to resolve issues and improve project workflows
  • Demonstrating ownership over assigned responsibilities and deliverables
  • Remaining composed and solution-oriented when handling difficult or unfamiliar challenges

Requirements

We welcome students, fresh graduates, interns, and early-career professionals who are interested in project management, operations, AI, and people coordination.

You should have:

  • Proficiency in Mandarin, including the ability to read, write, and converse confidently
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken; and a willingness to communicate frequently, raise concerns early, and keep others updated
  • Comfort working with and learning regional varieties of Mandarin
  • An openness to learning Cantonese and understanding how language usage differs across countries and communities
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills
  • The ability to structure work, plan ahead, and follow through on commitments
  • The ability to coordinate multiple people in a remote working environment
  • A high level of ownership, initiative, and personal accountability
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work well with people from different backgrounds
  • The confidence to take on difficult, unfamiliar, or ambiguous challenges
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
  • A willingness to engage professionally with clients and external stakeholders
  • A proactive, self-driven attitude and a strong desire to learn
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, particularly Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Google Drive
  • Previous project management experience is not required. However, you should be genuinely interested in developing strong project management fundamentals through hands-on work.

Bonus if you have

  • Experience coordinating teams, events, or projects
  • Experience in operations, community management, or project support
  • Proficiency in additional languages, and familiarity with Mandarin or Cantonese language differences across countries
  • Experience communicating with clients or external stakeholders
  • Experience reviewing, translating, transcribing, or working with language-based data
  • An interest in AI, data annotation, technology, or automation

What we look for

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is hungry to learn and improve
  • Takes responsibility without waiting to be reminded
  • Communicates clearly and consistently
  • Asks questions when requirements are unclear
  • Raises risks early instead of allowing problems to grow
  • Works well with people and contributes positively to the team
  • Approaches difficult challenges with courage and perseverance
  • Is willing to experiment, receive feedback, and learn from mistakes
  • Wants to build a strong foundation in project management and operations

Benefits

  • Gain hands-on experience managing real AI data projects
  • Develop practical project management, client communication, and operational skills
  • Work with multilingual data across different countries and cultures
  • Receive guidance and mentorship from experienced Delivery Team members
  • Work in a collaborative environment that encourages initiative and ownership
  • Receive regular performance feedback and opportunities for growth
  • Be part of a fast-growing AI technology company
