Job description

At Kpler, we are dedicated to helping our clients navigate complex markets with ease. By simplifying global trade information and providing valuable insights, we empower organisations to make informed decisions in commodities, energy, and maritime sectors.

Since our founding in 2014, we have focused on delivering top-tier intelligence through user-friendly platforms. Our team of over 850 experts from 69 countries works tirelessly to transform intricate data into actionable strategies, ensuring our clients stay ahead in a dynamic market landscape. Join us to leverage cutting-edge innovation for impactful results and experience unparalleled support on your journey to success.

Kpler's Risk & Compliance solution gives maritime market participants - banks, traders, insurers, port operators, and compliance teams - the intelligence they need to screen vessels, monitor fleets, and manage sanctions exposure across the global IMO fleet. The product combines AIS-derived behavioral signals (spoofing, dark STS, AIS gaps), sanctions data from OFAC, OFSI, EU, and UN lists, cargo and trade risk classification, ownership screening across six ownership layers, PSC inspection records, and flag risk assessment into a single compliance picture per vessel and across entire fleets via the Compliance Workspace.

The role sits within an established squad - software engineers, data scientists, and a dedicated analyst team - and reports to the Lead PM. The BU Lead owns the strategy and market direction; this role owns translating that into a clear, prioritised backlog and shipping it reliably.

The immediate focus is on making the product more enterprise-ready: hardening data quality, improving API and data delivery workflows, deepening coverage, and supporting retention and upsell across a growing client base.

Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end product backlog for the Risk & Compliance platform, translating business priorities and validated customer needs into clear epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria that enable efficient delivery by engineering and data science teams.
  • Prioritise the product roadmap by balancing customer impact, commercial value, technical feasibility, and data dependencies across the platform's core capabilities.
  • Lead Agile delivery processes, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, release planning, and stakeholder communications, ensuring predictable, high-quality product delivery.
  • Partner closely with business leaders, analysts, engineers, and data scientists to translate market intelligence and analytical insights into actionable product requirements while providing delivery updates that inform roadmap priorities.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of enterprise-scale capabilities, including data pipeline reliability, API performance, bulk data delivery, alerting, notifications, and workflow optimisation for institutional customers.
  • Define and monitor product success metrics, using adoption, engagement, and customer feedback to measure value realisation and shape future roadmap decisions.
  • Champion best practices for product management, documentation, data quality, and delivery processes, fostering consistency and operational excellence across the product team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, and aligned with both customer needs and strategic business objectives.

  • Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant discipline such as Technology, Data, Economics, Finance, Law, or a related field.
  • 3 years experience, as a Product Owner or Product Manager delivering B2B data, analytics, or SaaS products within an Agile, cross-functional environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy and customer needs into a prioritised product backlog, delivering high-quality products on time.
  • Experience working closely with engineering teams building data-intensive platforms, with a solid understanding of data pipelines, APIs, message queues, and system dependencies.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across commercial, engineering, analyst, and data science teams.
  • Excellent data literacy, with the ability to interpret data, define product success metrics, and use insights to drive roadmap decisions.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile product management practices, including backlog management, user story creation, acceptance criteria, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release coordination.
  • Comfortable reviewing technical documentation, data schemas, and API specifications, and participating in technical discussions around distributed systems, databases, and streaming architectures.
  • Proficiency with product and delivery tools such as Jira, Confluence, and roadmap or product analytics platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business requirements and vice versa.
  • A proactive, ownership-driven mindset with strong attention to detail and a focus on delivering reliable, customer-centric products.
  • Ability to prioritise effectively, balancing customer value, commercial objectives, technical constraints, and operational considerations.
  • We are a dynamic company dedicated to nurturing connections and innovating solutions to tackle market challenges head-on.
