Job description

At E Source, we help utilities make sense of complexity in a rapidly changing landscape, and we’re looking for an Associate Engineer to support our work with utility energy efficiency programs across the country.

E Source is a research, data/analytics, and technology-focused professional services firm focused exclusively on the utility industry in North America. We help utilities target and serve their customers more effectively, enhance and optimize their grid, and leverage operating best practices and technologies to manage their business more effectively. Headquartered in Texas, we have 450+ employees across the US and Canada. Learn more at esource.com.

In this role, you will work closely with members of E Source’s portfolio evaluation team — engineers, social scientists, statisticians, public policy experts, and data scientists — to verify the impact of energy efficiency programs on customer energy use.

In this role, you will:

• Analyze energy efficiency program data using Excel and other tools.

• Evaluate and develop methodologies and algorithms to determine electric and fossil fuel savings for residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency technologies and programs.

• Calculate energy and demand savings associated with prescriptive and custom energy efficiency measures implemented in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

• Conduct on-site verification of energy efficiency measures.

• Produce high-quality reports and presentations based on engineering methods and findings.

• Support additional evaluation and research activities as assigned.

You’re likely a great fit if you:

• Hold a bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering, physics, environmental sciences, or a related field.

• Have completed coursework, projects, or professional experience (internship or co-op) related to energy consumption, energy efficiency, clean energy, or sustainability in the built environment.

• Have an understanding of the engineering principles underlying building energy use.

• Are proficient in Microsoft Excel and have some familiarity with Python.

• Are detail-oriented with strong attention to quality assurance.

• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid technical research abilities.

• Thrive when managing multiple time-sensitive priorities.

And even better if you:

• Are familiar with ASHRAE, ENERGY STAR, the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP), the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), and other residential and commercial building codes, standards, and protocols.

• Have experience with energy modeling, bin data analysis, and data logging with various types of equipment.

• Have experience with residential or commercial building energy simulation modeling applications such as eQuest, OpenStudio, EnergyPlus, EnergyPro, or EnergyGauge.

At E Source, you’ll work alongside people who are thoughtful, curious, and deeply knowledgeable about utility and energy systems. We value clarity over jargon, substance over flash, and collaboration over ego. You’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills, contribute to meaningful work, and help shape a company that plays a real role in how the energy future unfolds.

What you can expect:

• Excellent insurance options, including medical, dental, and vision plans; company-paid life insurance; company-paid long- and short-term disability insurance; medical and dependent-care flexible spending plans; and paid parental leave.

• A flexible time off (FTO) policy that provides paid time away from work, approved by your manager, while ensuring business needs, workload commitments, and appropriate coverage are maintained.

• A 401(k) plan with a 3% employer match.

The budgeted salary for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 USD + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

This role will be remote with infrequent travel (generally 3–4 times per year).

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US. We’re unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
