The Opportunity:

Ensemble Health Partners is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering to lead the VUR/UM engineering team, driving the development and delivery of cloud-based products that drive better care for patients and lower operating costs. This individual will lead a team of approximately 8 engineers while partnering closely with Product Management to define roadmaps, prioritize work, and deliver incremental value through modern software engineering practices. 

The ideal candidate is a technical leader who can balance business outcomes with engineering excellence, challenge existing processes, and help drive innovation across the organization.

Essential Job Functions 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of high-performing software engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.  

  • Partner closely with Product Management to define roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and deliver incremental business value through modern product development practices. 

  • Guide system design, architecture, and technical decision-making for scalable cloud-based applications and services. 

  • Oversee the delivery of software solutions, ensuring quality, reliability, security, and alignment with business objectives. 

  • Drive adoption of engineering best practices including agile methodologies, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and DevOps principles. 

  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve applications, development processes, architecture, and infrastructure to increase team effectiveness and accelerate delivery. 

  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to challenge existing processes and develop innovative solutions that improve business outcomes. 

  • Coach and support engineers through technical challenges, career development, and day-to-day execution. 

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations to leadership that improve scalability, efficiency, and operational effectiveness. 

  • Analyze team performance, technical debt, and platform needs to inform strategic investment and prioritization decisions. 

  • Foster strong cross-functional partnerships with product leaders, architects, and engineering leaders to align technical strategy with organizational goals.

  • 7-10 years as a software engineer 

  • 3-5 years of experience leading a team of engineers preferred 

  • 5+ years of experience in modern technology stacks, with a demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving technical environments. While our teams primarily leverage Microsoft technologies, we welcome candidates from diverse technical backgrounds who are excited to expand their skillset. 

  • An understanding of engineering fundamentals: testing automation, code reviews, telemetry, iterative delivery and DevOps 

  • Experience working with continuous integration & continuous delivery tools, REST API development, serverless architecture, containerization, IaC, public cloud, application observability, GraphQL and/or event driven architecture 

  • Experience delivering scalable applications using componentized and distributed architectures 

  • Solid foundations in formal architecture, design patterns and best practices 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical, globally distributed audiences 

  • Experience making recommendations to leadership on technology innovations to increase productivity and effectiveness. 

  • Exposure to AI-enabled development tools, code generation models, or ML-driven insights (e.g., Copilot, embedding models, vector search). 

  • Must be inquisitive and demonstrate openness to innovation including AI to explore better processes and ways to alleviate friction and improve patient and client experiences.

  • This is a remote position; however, candidates must be willing and able to travel to and work onsite at client, temporary, or corporate office locations as business needs require.
