Job description

This is a remote position.

Open to Australian Candidates only. You must have full right to work in Australia with no visa requirements

Kyckr is a B2B API platform that gives regulated businesses access to legally authoritative company data from 300+ corporate registries across 120 countries. Our customers are banks, fintechs, and compliance teams who rely on Kyckr to power their Know Your Business (KYB) and AML workflows. Data is sourced in real time from official government registries and delivered through a normalised, machine-readable API.

We were recently named a Category Leader for KYC Data Solutions by Chartis Research. After a year of record growth, we are investing in our engineering team to accelerate delivery of our next-generation Registry Hub architecture.

We are a small, focused engineering team distributed across Australia, Ireland, the UK, and the Philippines. We operate on Azure, run a large .NET monorepo alongside a newer microservices architecture, and are actively adopting AI-assisted development tooling — including Claude Code and GitHub Copilot — as a core part of how we build software.

The Role

We are looking for a Development Team Lead to lead a small team of four developers while remaining a hands-on senior engineer. This is a player-coach role: we anticipate roughly an 80/20 split between writing code and leading the team. You will spend the majority of your time building software, and the rest growing your engineers, unblocking delivery, and raising the technical bar.

You will be one of our most senior technical contributors — setting the standard for code quality, design, and AI-assisted ways of working — at the same time as owning the line management and career development of your team. You will report directly to the CTO and work closely with them on technical direction, delivery, and team growth.

Two areas matter especially for this role. First, agentic AI for coding: we are not experimenting at the edges — Claude Code and agentic development and QA workflows are central to how we build, and we want a leader who can drive that adoption from the front. Second, product integrations: a large part of our value is connecting reliably to corporate registries and third-party data sources worldwide, and to our customers’ systems, so deep, practical integration experience is important.

The right person is an excellent engineer who genuinely enjoys developing people, communicates clearly in a distributed team, and is energised by working in a domain where data quality has real regulatory consequences.

What You’ll Be Doing

Hands-On Engineering (the majority of your time)

Spend most of your time writing clean, testable, production code in .NET (C#) and SQL Server across our monorepo and newer Registry Hub services — leading by example, not from the sidelines.

Take on the most complex and ambiguous technical work, and set the standard for design, code quality, and testing across the team.

Own significant features and services end-to-end, from design through delivery and operation.

Lead architecture and design discussions, making pragmatic, well-reasoned decisions and clearly communicating the trade-offs.

Agentic AI for Coding

Drive the team’s use of Claude Code and agentic development and QA workflows — for code generation, refactoring, test writing, code review, automated regression checking, and code analysis.

Define and continuously improve the prompt engineering practices, agent configurations, and guardrails that let the team build faster without compromising quality.

Evaluate and introduce new AI tooling as the landscape evolves, and help the wider engineering organisation adopt what works.

Establish how we measure the impact of AI-assisted development on velocity and quality, and use that to guide adoption.

Product Integrations

Lead the design and delivery of integrations with third-party registry APIs and data sources, handling the complexity of varied data formats and reliability characteristics across 120 countries.

Own the patterns for resilient, observable, and maintainable integrations — retries, error handling, rate limiting, and monitoring.

Work with product and customer-facing teams to deliver integrations into customers’ systems and workflows that solve real compliance problems.

Team Leadership & People Management

Line-manage a team of four developers, including regular one-to-ones, performance management, and active career development and growth planning.

Mentor and coach engineers, giving and receiving constructive feedback through code review and day-to-day collaboration.

Own your team’s delivery — planning, prioritisation, and removing blockers — in partnership with product and the CTO.

Foster a pragmatic, high-trust, high-ownership engineering culture and help recruit and onboard new engineers as the team grows.

Delivery, Quality & Collaboration

Champion strong engineering practices: meaningful tests, safe and repeatable deployments through our Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, and continuous improvement.

Work asynchronously with a distributed team across three time zones, using Microsoft Teams, Azure DevOps, Confluence, and Jira.

Document technical decisions, architecture, and runbooks clearly — good written communication matters in a remote team.

Collaborate with product, compliance, and customer success to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet real-world needs.

Requirements

We are looking for 7–10 years of hands-on software development experience, including time spent leading or mentoring other engineers. You don’t need to have held a formal “Team Lead” title before, but you should be ready to combine deep, current technical contribution with real responsibility for a team. You don’t need to have worked in FinTech or RegTech specifically, but you should be comfortable building production services where reliability and security matter.

Essential

7–10 years of professional software development experience, with strong, current hands-on skills in .NET / C#.

Solid experience with SQL Server: queries, stored procedures, and relational data modelling.

Proven experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party systems and data sources.

Demonstrable experience leading, mentoring, or line-managing engineers — and a genuine interest in developing people and their careers.

Hands-on experience with AI-assisted and agentic development tooling (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar), and enthusiasm for making it central to how a team works.

Strong system design and architecture judgement, with the ability to make and clearly explain pragmatic trade-offs.

Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills across a distributed system.

Strong written and verbal communication for a remote, distributed team.

Comfortable balancing hands-on delivery with leadership responsibilities (an 80/20 coding-to-leadership split).

Nice to Have

Experience configuring or operating agentic AI workflows for development or QA at a team level.

Experience with Microsoft Azure services (Azure Functions, App Services, Service Bus, Blob Storage, Key Vault, APIM).

Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (Azure DevOps, YAML pipelines, automated deployments).

Experience with message-driven and event-driven architectures (Azure Service Bus, queues).

Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and Kubernetes.

Front-end experience with React or other modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks.

Experience working in a regulated industry (FinTech, HealthTech, GovTech, or similar).

Benefits

Our engineering team is distributed across Australia, Ireland, the UK, and the Philippines. We work asynchronously by default, using Microsoft Teams, Azure DevOps, Confluence, and Jira to coordinate. The CTO is UK-based, and you will have a regular, collaborative working relationship with them.

We are a pragmatic team. We prefer well-considered decisions over process for its own sake. We document our architecture in Confluence, use Miro for diagrams, and write diagrams inline where appropriate. We are actively improving our engineering practices — including metrics, better CI/CD, and more consistent Infrastructure-as-Code — and every engineer contributes to that effort.

We use Claude Code as our AI coding assistant and are building out agentic workflows for development and QA. We take a practical, incremental approach to AI adoption — this is not theoretical experimentation. It is how we are choosing to build software, and we want a leader who is excited to take that further.

What We Offer

A genuine player-coach role — stay deeply technical while leading and growing a team.

Remote-first working with flexibility over your schedule.

Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

Direct access to technical leadership and real influence over how the platform and team evolve.

A small, experienced team with low bureaucracy and high trust.

A genuinely interesting platform: real-time data from 120 countries, complex legacy systems being modernised, and a clear architectural direction.

AI-first development culture — you will lead the team in using cutting-edge AI tooling as a core part of how we build, not as a side project.
