About Oil and Gas Technology: 

OGT is a team of around 200 scientists and engineers who develop and provide pioneering solutions to support bp’s Production and Operations (P&O) and Gas and Low Carbon Energy (G&LCE) businesses.

The Reservoir Recovery Unit sits in OGT team, part of Applied Sciences Technology. The team is part of the 60-strong Subsurface and Wells group, working closely with P&O to develop innovative technological solutions addressing both near- and longer-term challenges. The Reservoir Recovery Unit is the home of the Dynamic Displacement laboratory, which provides unique experimental capability and delivers data across waterflood/gasflood, special core analysis (SCAL, including relative permeability), enhanced oil recovery, production assurance (production chemistry) and Wells technology. You will be part of the Reservoir Recovery Laboratory team and will provide technical support and quality assurance to SCAL scientists working in the lab.

Job Purpose and primary objectives:

You will be accountable for designing and managing Waterflood and Gasflood (including CO2) Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), Production Assurance and/or Special Core Analysis Studies (SCAL) for long term R&D, or P&O/G&LCE facing studies. You will oversee the planning and initiation of studies in the Reservoir Recovery Laboratory or in 3rd party centres. Additionally, you will provide technical input & review of study proposals, reports and technical procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead all the required job activities during the life of a Laboratory study - including proposal preparation and input to job tracking tools.
  • Manage financial aspects of technical studies to ensure delivery to agreed budgets.
  • Provide technical assurance for Waterflood and Gasflood, EOR, Production Assurance and SCAL Measurements.
  • Conduct interpretation, analysis and reporting of experimental data generated during studies.
  • Undertake supervision of sub-contracted SCAL studies, ensuring safety and quality are maintained including QA of studies.
  • Supervise and mentor lab scientists
  • Meet bp’s safety standards in all aspects of the role and support equipment operators in meeting safety expectations including Control of Work and Inspection and Maintenance.

Primary Skills:

  • At least eight to ten years of strong laboratory based scientific background with expertise in SCAL and reservoir condition experimentation.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • A conscientious and inclusive leadership style, with the ability to foster agility and teamwork.
  • Good communication skills.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in engineering or relevant science, or equivalent.
  • Hands on experience of lab work, including planning, executing and reporting studies.
  • Experience prioritising lab safety processes.

Other

  • Travel – up to 10%.
