The Senior Manager, SHE&S, Downstream, Canada, serves as the senior SHE&S leader and trusted advisor for the Canadian Downstream region. The role provides strategic direction, governance, coaching, and technical expertise to operational leaders and stakeholders to ensure SHE&S risks are effectively managed and business objectives are achieved safely and responsibly. The position works closely with operational leadership to align SHE&S priorities with business goals, establish consistent expectations, and drive continuous improvement in risk management and performance outcomes.

 

This role leads a team of SHE&S Advisors and is accountable for translating enterprise / Nutrien Way strategies into practical business solutions, establishing regional or business-specific priorities, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements. The Senior Manager influences decisions across multiple levels of leadership and promotes a culture of accountability, operational discipline, and risk ownership throughout the organization.

What You'll Do:

 

  • Direct and develop teams of SHE&S professionals while establishing priorities, objectives, and performance expectations
  • Partner with business leaders to identify emerging risks, develop mitigation strategies, and integrate SHE&S considerations into business planning and decision-making
  • Establish and monitor SHE&S performance metrics, governance processes, assurance activities, and management system effectiveness
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and company SHE&S standards across assigned operations
  • Provide strategic leadership and technical expertise to operational leaders to strengthen SHE&S culture and risk ownership
  • Lead implementation of enterprise SHE&S initiatives, programs, and strategic priorities within assigned business areas
  • Analyze incident data, audit findings, inspection results, and performance trends to identify opportunities for improvement and risk reduction
  • Oversee significant incident investigations, corrective action programs, and organizational learning processes
  • Collaborate with corporate and functional SHE&S subject matter experts to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and leading practices
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory developments, industry trends, and external best practices to continuously improve SHE&S performance

What You'll Bring:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, Security Management, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Preferred 10+ years of progressive SHE&S experience in industrial, manufacturing, retail, agricultural, mining, energy, logistics, transportation, or similar operational environments
  • Demonstrated experience leading SHE&S professionals and managing regionally distributed teams
  • Experience partnering with senior operational leaders to develop strategy, manage risk, and improve organizational performance
  • Professional certification such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, CRSP, or equivalent preferred
  • Strong knowledge of SHE&S Nutrien Way management systems, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, incident management, and assurance processes
  • Experience designing, implementing, and improving SHE&S programs across multiple locations or business units
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to align SHE&S priorities to operational and strategic objectives
  • Proven ability to influence leaders and stakeholders at all organizational levels without direct authority
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, change leadership, and relationship-management capabilities
  • Ability to lead effectively in complex, geographically dispersed, and rapidly changing environments
