Job description

Job Type:

Contractor

Build a brilliant future with Hiscox

Position: Interim Underwriter / Insurance Product Specialist Netherlands

Commitment: 0.5 FTE (approx. 20 hours/week)

Duration: Contract / Interim (Project-based)

Location: Remote / Hybrid (Must align with CET working hours)

Language: Fluent Dutch & English (Required)

Availability: Immediate / ASAP

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Interim Underwriter or Insurance Product Specialist to fill a critical gap in our ongoing platform modernization project. This is a dual-focus contract role structured as a 0.5 FTE commitment.

To make this a viable and rewarding engagement, you will split your time between driving high-impact local market validations for our core system transformation and supporting our day-to-day underwriting business. You will serve as the localized "source of truth," ensuring our new digital platform perfectly aligns with Dutch market standards, regulatory compliance, and underwriting best practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Core System Gap Analysis & Product Setup (Project)

  • Product & Clause Review: Evaluate the setup of localized products and specific clauses within the new system to ensure absolute accuracy.
  • Documentation Alignment: Review policy wording, schedules, and other customer-facing documentation against Dutch market standards.
  • Workflow Optimization: Audit existing and proposed operational workflows to identify functional gaps.

2. Functional Design & User Journey (Project)

  • Workflow & Journey Review: Validate transactional workflows and digital user journeys from an underwriting and broker/customer perspective.
  • Structure Validation: Verify that product architecture and coverage frameworks are logically structured within the new platform.

3. Technical Product Commercialization (Project)

  • Underwriting Rules Validation: Review and validate business rules, underwriting decisions (Accept, Referral, Decline), coverage limits, and deductibles within the technical setup.

4. Day-to-Day Business Support (Operations)

  • Underwriting Execution: Support the local team with daily underwriting tasks, risk assessments, and broker queries to maintain business continuity while the project absorbs core staff.

Profile Requirements

  • Insurance Expertise: Strong, demonstrable background in underwriting or insurance product management within the Dutch market (Commercial or Personal lines).
  • Language Skills: Native or business-fluent Dutch (written and verbal) is non-negotiable due to wording and clause reviews. Professional proficiency in English is required for project collaboration.
  • Systems & Analytics Mindset: Experience participating in core system migrations, platform developments, or detailed gap analyses is highly preferred. You should comfortable translating "insurance logic" into functional system requirements.
  • Eye for Detail: Deep understanding of Dutch policy wordings, regulatory standards, and market nuances.
  • Autonomy: A self-starter who can hit the ground running with minimal onboarding, balancing project deadlines with daily operational tasks.

What We Offer

  • A crucial role in a high-visibility digital transformation project.
  • The flexibility of a 0.5 FTE schedule, ideal for established independent contractors.
  • A collaborative, fast-paced international project environment.
