Join our Global Payments Technology Team and advance your career as a Senior Software Engineer (Backend developer) 

In this role You will:  

  • Design and develop scalable backend services, REST APIs, and Lambda functions supporting payment processing and transaction management systems 

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive resolution of system defects to maintain platform stability. 

  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks, improve system resiliency, and reduce the frequency and impact of operational incidents. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, vendors, and POS providers to resolve integration issues and improve end-to-end transaction flows. 

  • Contribute to feature development, enhancements, and modernisation of payment processing systems. 

  • Actively identify and address technical debt to ensure long-term maintainability and architectural integrity. 

  • Drive standard methodologies across coding, testing, code review, and deployment. 

  • This is a unique role well positioned to create substantial value for the business and requires a result driven, enthusiastic individual with the right mix of analytical, software development and communication skills. 

What You will need to be successful: 

  • Bachelor / master’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience 

  • Strong backend development experience using Java (Java 17+, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Maven) and Python. 

  • Hands-on AWS experience across ECS Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, S3, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, SSM Parameter Store, and Secrets Manager 

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices — CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps), AWS CDK, Docker, and monitoring tooling 

  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems and microservices in production environments 

  • Strong Software Engineering Design capabilities and understanding of Computational Complexity. 

  • Proven track record to debug and resolve complex, time-sensitive issues in production systems 

  • Strive for excellence and continuous improvement in software architecture, Agile methods and build systems, as well as the underlying optimization algorithms. 

  • Ability to work closely with the business, draw out their requirements and create a mathematical model.  Strong communication skills with ability to present ideas well graphically as well as verbally. 

Desirable Criteria: 

  • Experience in digital payments, POS integrations, or fuel/retail payment systems Operational experience of running business critical systems. 

  • Exposure to Python for scripting, automation, or backend services 

  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring platforms (Grafana, CloudWatch, Application Insights)
