Description of Work

This position is a senior-level professional who serves as a regional point of contact for customers, assisting them in identifying, understanding, and complying with DEQ environmental processes, requirements, and permits. They will collaborate with multiple permitting programs, including those offering express permitting options. This position represents DEQ and collaborates with local and state economic development professionals in business recruitment and site selection efforts. The specialist provides customer service to interpret and address a variety of customer inquiries regarding technical and regulatory issues. They also facilitate timely responses to customer inquiries/requests, independently gather information, and provide solutions to DEACS' clients.

Travel may be necessary for division outreach and marketing efforts, to complete economic development tasks, and to attend staff meetings. The frequency of travel is based on need but may be up to 10% per month. The individual in this position must have a valid driver's license.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist clients with identifying applicable permits, arranging and facilitating pre-application/multi-agency meetings, obtaining regulatory interpretations, developing anticipated review timelines, tracking application progress, and resolving issues/roadblocks.

Attend meetings and site visits within assigned areas to support economic development projects and fulfill the role of DEQ liaison for the assigned Prosperity Zone.

Facilitate the process of collecting and consolidating regional regulatory program comments for the public, Department of Administration Clearinghouse SEPA/NEPA projects, and other internal review programs as needed.

Assist in developing fact sheets, tools, guidance documents, and presentations related to DEQ’s permitting and department resources.

Attend meetings, seminars, listening sessions, public meetings, and other events to educate the public on services offered and receive customer questions, improvement suggestions, and perceptions about the division/department's services.

Recruitment Range: $52,592.00 - $71,658.00

Bachelor's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
