Senior Java Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Java Engineer who is comfortable working within complex legacy environments and can quickly understand an existing application architecture.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Java EE and monolithic applications, along with the ability to navigate large codebases with limited documentation. This person should also have an AI focused mindset and be comfortable using AI assisted and agentic coding tools to accelerate code analysis, documentation, development, and overall impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and understand complex existing application architectures
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance legacy Java applications
• Navigate large monolithic codebases with limited documentation
• Work with JSP, Servlets, Hibernate, and Java EE technologies
• Develop and maintain REST APIs and enterprise system integrations
• Collaborate closely with technical leadership and existing engineering teams
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, and opportunities for improvement
• Use AI assisted development tools to accelerate code understanding, documentation, testing, and delivery
• Support architectural discussions and recommend practical technical solutions
• Document existing systems, workflows, integrations, and technical decisions

Required Technical Experience

• Strong professional experience with Java and Java EE applications
• Hands on experience with JSP
• Hands on experience with Servlets
• Strong experience with Hibernate
• Experience supporting and developing monolithic applications
• Ability to understand and navigate complex existing codebases
• Experience with Apache Tomcat
• Experience with MySQL
• Experience designing, developing, or integrating REST APIs
• Experience working with enterprise integrations and interconnected systems
