Job description

We're on the hunt for a Secondary Math Teacher (Grades 6–12) who can turn equations into
adventures and make students actually excited to see numbers on a screen. This is a growing,
inquiry-based, student-centered online school serving families seeking a flexible alternative to
traditional schooling — including third-culture kids, gifted and neurodivergent learners, and
students chasing big passions in sports, arts, or entrepreneurship.
Small class sizes, clear pacing guides, and an established online curriculum mean less planning
stress and more time for the good stuff: relationships, creative instruction, and "aha!" moments.
Ongoing professional development in online teaching and effective use of digital tools is
provided, and leadership genuinely gets the online/homeschool/alternative-ed world.

Position Overview

This part-time role (approximately 20 hours per week) has the potential to grow into a full-time
position. You'll guide students through an online math curriculum, deliver live synchronous
lessons, and use LMS data to spot who needs extra support and who's ready to be
challenged further — all while keeping things energetic and relatable, because math
doesn't have to be boring.

Instruction & Assessment

● Deliver scheduled live math lessons via the school's LMS using Zoom, primarily during
morning hours (e.g., 9:00–2:00 p.m.), plus flexible time for small-group or 1:1 support.
● Bring math to life using real-world problems, puzzles, games, and interactive digital tools
(think Desmos, BussMath, Kahoot, GeoGebra) to spark curiosity instead of dread.
● Adapt pacing and delivery across concepts like algebra, geometry, statistics, and
pre-calculus/calculus while keeping instruction fun and student-driven.
● Use LMS tools (assignments, quizzes, analytics, discussions) to monitor engagement
and deliver timely, actionable feedback.
● Design whole-group, small-group, and individualized lessons that build genuine number
sense and problem-solving confidence.
● Experiment with new digital tools that promote active learning, gamified practice, and
creative math exploration.
● Complete grading on time and communicate progress with students and families.

Student Support & Progress Monitoring

● Build strong relationships with students through consistent, encouraging communication.
● Conduct orientation sessions so students know what to expect and feel motivated from
day one.
● Help students tackle math anxiety by making mistakes feel like part of the fun, not
something to fear.
● Analyze LMS data to identify students needing reteaching, enrichment, or extra
challenge.
● Provide scaffold instruction and differentiated practice to meet diverse learning needs.
● Monitor attendance and engagement, following up quickly if a student starts to fall
behind.

Documentation & Accountability

● Maintain accurate, timely records of attendance, grades, communication, and
interventions in the LMS.
● Contribute to Personal Learning Plans documenting individual goals and
accommodations.
● Communicate regularly with students about progress, attendance, and milestones.

Collaboration & Professional Practice

● Collaborate with fellow teachers, advisors, and support staff for students with diverse
academic and social needs.
● Share creative math strategies and engagement tricks with colleagues.
● Participate in team meetings and professional learning focused on improving online math
instruction.
● Support occasional virtual/in-person info sessions, family events, or STEM/math
community activities.

Requirements

● Bachelor's degree or higher required; majors in Education, Mathematics, or related fields
strongly preferred.
● Candidates actively completing a Bachelor's program in a math-related field are
welcome to apply.
● Experience teaching math at the middle or high school level.
● Comfort with LMS platforms (Canvas, Schoology, Google Classroom, or similar) for
instruction and grading.
● Strong command of English and excellent communication skills for working with
international students and families.
● Proficiency with digital tools like video conferencing, collaborative whiteboards, and
interactive math apps.
● A knack for making math playful, relevant, and a little less scary.
● Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage a part-time online teaching
schedule.
● Professionalism, adaptability, and ability to work independently from a remote,
distraction-free workspace.
● Reliable high-speed internet connection.

Benefits

● Approximately 15–20 hours per week, focused on morning live sessions plus flexible
planning/grading time.
● Potential to transition to full-time.
● Competitive salary aligned with qualifications and online teaching experience.
● Fully covered tuition for eligible dependents enrolled as students.
● A supportive, innovative team culture that values creativity, humor, and teacher input just
as much as test scores.
