EXA CAPITAL
Permanent-capital home for vertical market software
Director, Value Creation
Player-Coach · North America (remote-friendly) · Reports to the CEO
The mission. Help good software companies become exceptional — and build the operating system that lets them keep compounding for decades. As Director, Value Creation, you partner with the CEOs of our portfolio companies to grow revenue, expand margins, and sharpen how they run, all while protecting the independence that makes each business great.
Why this is a rare seat
Most operating roles ask you to fix one company on a fund's clock. This one is different:
• No exit clock. We are permanent capital. You build for the long term, not for a sale in three to five years.
• A whole portfolio as your canvas. You work across multiple software businesses at once — exposure very few roles offer.
• A direct line to the CEO. You partner closely with Exa's CEO on the initiatives that move the needle immediately and visibly.
• You build the system. The playbooks, cadences, and operating rhythm you create become lasting assets across the portfolio.
What you'll do
• Drive value creation. Find and execute the levers — pricing, upsell/cross-sell, new customer acquisition, cost structure, GTM — that grow revenue and expand EBITDA. Build clear 90-day and annual Value Creation Plans and deliver measurable results.
• Grow the top line. Partner with PortCo CEOs on organic growth and net revenue retention; strengthen sales, marketing, and partnerships; and unlock new markets, modules, and verticals.
• Install the operating rhythm. Stand up weekly and monthly business reviews, standardized KPIs, and dashboards that turn data into faster, better decisions.
• Lead integrations. Own the first 100 days of each acquisition — systems, reporting, culture, and financial alignment — and deliver early wins fast.
• Multiply talent and share what works. Coach leaders, strengthen the A-player bench, and turn successful initiatives into playbooks the whole portfolio can use — including AI-enabled efficiency gains.
What you'll bring
• 6+ years creating value in software or technology businesses, with a track record of driving organic revenue growth and improving EBITDA or free cash flow.
• Experience running or materially transforming a business unit or P&L.
• Fluency in SaaS and operating metrics (ARR, NRR, CAC, LTV), growth KPIs, and financial modeling.
• A gift for leading cross-functional teams through influence rather than authority — you earn trust fast.
• Strong analytical judgment, clear communication, and executive presence.
Nice to have: GM/COO/President experience at a $10M–$50M software business; you've built and expanded; exposure to M&A and post-acquisition integration; a background in consulting or a PE operating team with real operating ownership.
Who you are
A builder and a systems thinker. A coach who raises standards. A steward of culture and long-term value. A truth-teller who is direct, honest, and respectful. A partner, not a micromanager — and a believer in permanent capital, decentralization, and compounding over decades.
