OSC EdgeTech, LLC is seeking a talented Senior Database Administrator to join the team. 


OSC EdgeTech is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), an Alaska Native Corporation proudly owned by over 9,400 Shareholders. Position Overview


The Senior Database Administrator provides technical leadership for enterprise clustered database platforms and provides oversight of administration, support operations, incident response, troubleshooting, performance optimization, security compliance, high availability, disaster recovery, lifecycle management, and modernization efforts. This role serves as a technical advisor to Government and contractor leadership, mentors administrators, and ensures mission-critical database services meet operational, reliability, and cybersecurity requirements.


Major Activities

  • Architect, design, engineer, and document database servers and associated infrastructure in clustered, stand-alone, and appliance-hosted configurations that meet mission requirements, service specifications, and cybersecurity mandates.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and sustainment of enterprise database architectures supporting mission-critical applications, high availability, disaster recovery, scalability, and performance requirements.
  • Serve as the senior technical authority for database platform engineering, database hosting infrastructure, database clustering, replication, backup and recovery, and database modernization initiatives.
  • Lead and provide strategic guidance for database modernization initiatives, including upgrades, migrations, patching, platform refreshes, lifecycle replacement efforts, cloud adoption, consolidation, automation, and platform standardization; ensure database systems are configured to meet security, environmental, operational, and performance requirements while minimizing mission and operational impact.
  • Perform STIG hardening, configuration, assessments, and remediation activities; lead database security compliance efforts including vulnerability management, audit support, privileged access reviews, configuration baseline management, and coordination with cybersecurity teams.
  • Sustain a fleet of physical and virtual database-hosting servers running a mix of operating systems, including Open Systems and Windows Systems, in multiple network environments.
  • Design, configure, validate, and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including clustering, replication, failover, backup strategies, restore testing, and continuity of operations support.
  • Lead resolution of operational issues and provide onsite and on-call support for all aspects of database architecture, database platforms, and database management software.
  • Perform advanced performance analysis, tuning, capacity planning, workload analysis, and trend assessment to ensure database platforms meet mission requirements and prevent service degradation.
  • Plan, execute, and document server specification changes.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce database standards, naming conventions, backup schedules, maintenance plans, operational procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts, jobs, reports, and monitoring processes to improve database administration, compliance tracking, performance monitoring, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide root cause analysis for major incidents, recurring issues, failed jobs, performance problems, and service interruptions; develop corrective actions and long-term remediation strategies; coordinate with vendors, equipment manufacturers and/or third-party vendors to develop corrective actions and long-term remediation strategies.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level database administrators, system administrators, application teams, and operations personnel.
  • Review proposed application, infrastructure, and database changes to assess security, performance, operational readiness, and overall risk.
  • Coordinate with application owners, cybersecurity, server, storage, and network personnel, as well as Government stakeholders to support enterprise database operations and modernization efforts.
  • Perform other tasks as required by OSCEdgeTech and the Government contracting office.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to analyze customer and mission requirements and translate them into secure, scalable, and effective database architectures and solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of clustered database environments, replication, failover technologies, storage configuration, virtualization, and enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of database administration, architecture, security, backup and recovery, performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Strong experience administering enterprise database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar database technologies.
  • Ability to lead database design reviews, technical planning, change management, incident response, and modernization activities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain database maintenance plans, backup and recovery procedures, monitoring solutions, automation scripts, and operational documentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex database, operating system, storage, network, connectivity, and performance issues across enterprise environments.
  • Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity requirements, DISA STIGs, vulnerability remediation, access controls, audit logging, privileged account management, and secure configuration practices.
  • Ability to analyze database metrics, identify performance bottlenecks, and recommend  improvements to  reliability and performance.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical risks, recommendations, and operational impacts to Government leadership, technical personnel, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentor technical staff and provide senior-level review of database administration work products.
  • General knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery for front-end customization.
  • General understanding of PowerShell, SQL, Python, shell scripting, or vendor-specific database automation tools.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Sufficient fine motor skills for the use of computers, calculators with an ability to withstand repetitive keyboarding for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in confined rack spaces.
  • Visual and communications ability are adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to kneel, bend and twist at the waist on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to reach below shoulder height with regular frequency (desk position) and at or above shoulder height on occasion.
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience designing, building, administering, securing, and managing enterprise database environments.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical database platforms in an enterprise, DoD, Federal Government, or similarly complex operational environment.
  • Experience with database performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience leading or supporting database security compliance activities, including STIG implementation, vulnerability remediation, audit support, and configuration management.
  • Experience supporting enterprise content management solutions and associated business processes.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining automated workflows, approval processes, or business process solutions.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, standard operating procedures, maintenance plans, and operational support guides.
  • Experience coordinating with application, server, storage, network, cybersecurity, and Government stakeholders to support database operations and modernization efforts.
  • Must be able to pass background screening.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Oracle or SQL Server certification.
  • Senior-level database certification such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft SQL Server certification, PostgreSQL, or equivalent database platform certification. 
  • Experience with cloud-hosted or hybrid database environments, including Azure, AWS, Oracle Cloud, or other Government-approved cloud platforms.
  • Experience supporting database migrations, platform modernization, cloud migration planning, or database consolidation initiatives.
  • Experience with automation, monitoring, dashboarding, and reporting tools that improve database operations and visibility.
  • Experience with RMF, eMASS, ACAS, DISA STIG Viewer, vulnerability management processes, or DoD Cybersecurity compliance workflows.
  • Experience serving as a technical lead, senior administrator, or subject matter expert for enterprise database operations.
