Position Summary
The Application Analyst - Epic Hospital Billing reports to the Manager of Business Applications and is responsible for the build, support, optimization, testing, and ongoing maintenance of Epic Resolute Hospital Billing functionality, with a primary focus on Charge Router and Hospital Billing charging workflows. This position partners closely with Revenue Cycle, Revenue Integrity, clinical operations, Information Services, vendors, and Epic support resources to ensure accurate charge capture, charge routing, account posting, workqueue performance, issue resolution, and system reliability. The analyst serves as a subject matter resource for Epic Hospital Billing charging configuration, troubleshooting, upgrades, enhancements, and operational adoption.
Essential Position Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, test, and optimize Epic Resolute Hospital Billing functionality with emphasis on Charge Router, Hospital Billing charging administration, charge capture, charge review, and related revenue cycle workflows.
- Configure and support charging rules, routing logic, workqueues, charge review processes, and related system build to promote accurate, timely, and compliant charge generation and posting.
- Partner with Revenue Cycle, Revenue Integrity, Finance, clinical departments, and operational leaders to evaluate charging workflows, resolve charging issues, and implement system improvements that support organizational revenue cycle performance.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues, including failed charges, workqueue errors, routing concerns, configuration defects, and end-user support tickets.
- Lead or participate in application testing, including unit testing, integrated testing, regression testing, upgrade testing, charge testing, and validation of new or modified functionality.
- Document system build, workflow decisions, testing outcomes, issue resolution steps, and operational impacts in accordance with Information Services standards and change control processes.
- Collaborate with application analysts across clinical, access, professional billing, claims, coding, interfaces, reporting, and data teams to support integrated charging workflows and downstream billing processes.
- Monitor application performance, ticket trends, charging errors, workqueue activity, and system outcomes to identify opportunities for optimization, standardization, and process improvement.
- Support Epic upgrades, special updates, Nova notes, break/fix activities, optimization requests, and project work related to Hospital Billing and Charge Router functionality.
- Serve as a liaison between Information Services and operational stakeholders to translate business needs into effective system design, workflow configuration, and sustainable support processes.
- Provide guidance, communication, and support to end users, super users, revenue cycle leaders, and application teams regarding system functionality, charging workflow changes, and issue resolution.
- Maintain active engagement with Epic support resources, vendor tools, knowledge repositories, and application governance processes to support reliable and compliant system operations.
- Participate in incident response, downtime planning, issue escalation, and post-implementation support activities as needed.
- Ensure assigned applications and workflows support applicable regulatory, compliance, privacy, security, and organizational standards, including the safeguarding of protected health information.
- Prepare and maintain project plans, status updates, issue lists, testing documentation, and other materials necessary to support application governance and operational readiness.
- Support knowledge transfer, cross-training, and mentoring of team members to promote continuity of application support and long-term team effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED, required.
- Licensure and Certifications: Epic certification in Charge Router and Epic certification in Hospital Billing Charging Administration, required. Additional Epic Resolute Hospital Billing certification or proficiency, preferred.
- Experience: Four years of business applications, revenue cycle, information systems, or related healthcare technology experience, required. Experience supporting Epic Hospital Billing, Charge Router, charge capture, revenue integrity, billing workflows, workqueues, testing, troubleshooting, and application build, preferred.
Work Environment: This position will spend 90% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment and 10% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. This is role is considered a remote position with onsite presence as needed.
