Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company focused on delivering novel therapeutics for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a serious liver disease that can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure, need for liver transplantation and premature mortality. Madrigal’s medication, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), is a once-daily, oral, liver-directed THR-β agonist designed to target key underlying causes of MASH. Rezdiffra is the first and only medication approved by both the FDA and European Commission for the treatment of MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis (F2 to F3). An ongoing Phase 3 outcomes trial is evaluating Rezdiffra for the treatment of compensated MASH cirrhosis (F4c).

Opportunity and Summary of Position:
The Director, Specialty Pharmacy Operations is responsible for directing, monitoring, and enhancing specialty pharmacy (SP) operations within Madrigal’s Market Access and Trade team. The Director manages dispensing operations across the channel to drive continuous improvement in patient access and adherence, while delivering a best-in-class patient and prescriber experience. The Director also collaborates with key internal stakeholders including MPS, Marketing, Data Analytics, Medical Affairs, Finance, Pricing & Contracting, Regulatory, Legal, and the Market Access field team to identify patient access opportunities and implement impactful solutions. Additionally, the Director engages external stakeholders (e.g. SP’s and IDN’s) in day-to-day program operations and analysis of key data and KPI’s to ensure contractual obligations are meeting/exceeding obligations. This role will have up to three direct reports supporting specialty pharmacy operations, and reports to the Executive Director, Trade and Specialty Distribution
Position Responsibilities:
Acquire and maintain deep understanding of NASH disease state, resmetirom clinical data and commercialization strategy
Build, grow, and lead a team of specialty pharmacy operations specialists
Develop and implement the operational structure to support Madrigal’s specialty
pharmacy network strategy; closely monitor SP performance to ensure contractual obligations are meeting / exceeding obligations
Implement specialty pharmacy program services, enhancements, and operational efficiencies with the goal of positively impacting patient access, adherence, awareness, and affordability
Maintain detail-oriented SP program correspondence, call guides, and collateral via internal legal and regulatory approval processes
Partner with internal Patient Access and Data Analytics teams to continuously evaluate and analyze specialty pharmacy vendor performance relative to goals and objectives
Support Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR’s) and other meetings with SP’s; prepare all materials, communicate expectations to SP’s, and continuously drive performance while identifying key insights to incorporate into strategic planning efforts
Collaborate closely with Consumer Marketing and MPS teams to enhance SP program and continuously exceed the needs of HCP’s and patients
Oversee brand planning initiatives, operational plans, project budgets, expenses, and timelines
Ensure timely and accurate reporting of Adverse Events received through SP network; liaison with Pharmacovigilence and Medical Information teams on all escalations
Create and maintain necessary policies, procedures, and business rules for all distribution and dispensing programs
Consistently deliver measurable business outcomes based on program-level key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide focused customer-level reporting to leadership
Consistently deliver outcomes with enterprise wide impact, tackle projects with increased complexity, and influence change management to operations function across internal teams
Ensure the highest level of ethics, quality, and compliance by demonstrating in depth knowledge of laws that govern market access and channel activities
Conducts all activities in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations and company policies
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Business or Pharmacy preferred
12-15+ years of related experience in the biopharma industry with a proven, consistent history of high performance in a broad range of leadership roles of increasing responsibilities
7 - 10 years of healthcare industry customer/vendor management experience strongly preferred
5+ years of experience operationalizing specialty pharmacy programs and networks required
Experience with specialty distribution operations preferred
Ability to develop insights from data trends to improve program performance
Experience with pre-launch drugs and new product launches preferred
Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team and in an environment of rapid change
Excellent written, organizational, verbal, presentation, and communication skills a must
Proficient in MS Office products including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
Travel (approximately 20%)

Base salary is determined by several factors including the candidate’s qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands. As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position, applicable to all candidates, is $223,000 - $273,000 per year. We comply with all applicable minimum wage laws.
