Summary:

The Informatics Nurse I is a key role that serves as a liaison between operational areas and the IT department to support the understanding and translation of clinical needs and business requirements into technology solutions. The Informatics Nurse I supports the evaluation, election and implementation of clinical systems, supports quality improvement initiatives, and serves to support the ongoing education of clinical departments on technology processes and governance. This individual will work with operational stakeholders and their staff to optimize the usage of clinical systems through education, training, quality outcomes and providing support in accordance with organizational goals.

This is an entry level informatics position and supports a larger application team, in support of operations, under the supervision of the application team manager and assigned team leads if applicable.

Responsibilities:

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Serves as a liaison between IT and operational areas to support the development, implementation and adoption of technology solutions in support of operational objectives, quality/performance improvement initiatives, business requirements and organizational strategic objectives.

2. Provides 24/7 support, for Nuvance Health as a whole, through investigation and analysis of problems using documentation manuals, debugging tools & logic to resolve problems, prevent recurrence and ensure continuity including taking remote call for off-shit, weekends and holidays as assigned.

3. Cultivates strong relationships within the IT department, stakeholders and vendors to support the achievement of department goals, mission and strategic objectives.

4. Collaborates closely with IT leadership, operational leadership, and IT teams to support initiatives and projects, inclusive of opportunity identification to improve the design of systems and future state objectives/processes.

5. Assists in the development of processes, procedures, systems/applications, and policies to support appropriate system use, efficient workflows and processes for end users.

6. Supports activities, such as safety huddles, as assigned in support of the organizational objectives and operational requirements.

7. Responsible for planning, coordinating and monitoring the analysis, design, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of assigned applications, projects or other initiatives as the discretion of management and/or leadership.

8.  Provides planning, analytical, process and problem resolution services in support of organizational success with technology solutions, inclusive of, but not limited to, the development of appropriate documentation to support business requirements collection, system design, testing, implementation support and/or other requirements as defined by management/leadership.

9. Provides on-site support at all facilities and locations through rounding, go-live support and/or other activities as assigned by management/leadership to support, but not limited to, observation of current clinical workflows, participation in committees, provide advisory services to other IT teams representative of clinical considerations and workflows.

10. Engages in testing activities to support projects, initiatives, enhancements, and/or maintenance as assigned by management/leadership, inclusive, but not limited to the development and execution of testing strategies, issue resolution, facilitation of stakeholder engagement, and training requirements.

11. Supports all governance processes and requirements, including the participation in governance facilitation and adherence to organizational, industry, regulatory and IT standards.

12. Serves as a principal advocate and advisor to both operations and IT representing both operational clinical considerations and IT considerations to respective stakeholder groups in support of the assigned initiative, project or objective.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse. Bachelors degree in Nursing, other related clinical field or Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Industrial Technology, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution. Certifications in clinical management, health information management or Informatics is desirable.
  • A minimum of 4 years recent experience in a healthcare setting, with 4 years of direct experience with clinical computer system applications is required.
  • Prior experience with the use of a clinical order entry or clinical documentation system, particularly the Cerner Millennium products, preferred.
  • An understanding of analytical processes, along with demonstrated proficient computer skills related to spreadsheet use, plus database and query abilities.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, which include communication (both written and verbal). Project and work approach are team centric, creative, analytical and flexible. Able to deliver high quality clinical project work as assigned daily.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Functional knowledge of Project Management Methodology.

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:

  • Licensed R.N.
  • Valid state drivers license and proof of auto insurance, if applicable.
