Job description

Research Engineer (fixed-term) 

 

We are now looking for a Research Engineer to join our Wood & Pulp Technology Team in the Group Innovation and R&D function. This is a fixed-term parental leave substitution from 1 September 2026 until 30 September 2027. 

 

The location for the role is flexible. Ideally you are based in Sweden or Finland, however other European locations would be possible. The role reports to the Head of Wood & Pulp Technology

The purpose of the role is to support wood innovation activities in Stora Enso. And to provide customers and colleagues with expert technical knowledge on the application and performance of CLT and LVL.  

 

Your main responsibilities include 

  • Providing engineering and wood processing expertise to help develop ideas, accelerate innovation projects, and solve problems  

  • Supporting customers and sales by providing technical customer support in the use of CLT and LVL for construction 

  • Participating in project teams to deliver innovation projects to expected timescales, budgets, and desired deliverables 

  • Managing mass timber research activities 

  • Supporting colleagues on certification and building regulation requirements for mass timber products 

 

About you

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Tertiary education and experience in wood science, civil / structural engineering or related fields 

  • Deep knowledge of mass timber products and their use in construction 

  • Strong communication skills, especially explaining scientific and technical topics in a way that non-experts can understand 

  • An analytical approach, basing decisions on facts and using data effectively 

  • Scientific and technical literacy and experience in research projects 

  • The ability to engage with a wide range of people and job roles and with external stakeholders 

  • Fluent written and spoken English. Fluency in Swedish is an advantage
