About the role

We are seeking a technology leader to shape and deliver bp’s Tax technology strategy and portfolio.

In this role, you will lead the delivery, improvement and long-term evolution of platforms that support tax compliance, reporting, calculation and risk management. You will work closely with Tax, Finance, Technology and external partners to deliver secure, scalable and reliable solutions that support business goals and regulatory requirements.

This position combines critical thinking with delivery leadership, ensuring technology investments create measurable value, improve efficiency and support strong governance.

What you will do

Technology Strategy & Delivery

  • Delivery and operation of Tax technology products, platforms and services.
  • Develop and maintain a technology roadmap aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Guide technology transformation initiatives, including platform implementations, upgrades and modernisation programmes.
  • Ensure solutions are secure, resilient, scalable and sustainable.
  • Support the retirement of legacy applications and the adoption of new technologies.
  • Partner with Tax specialists to translate business needs into effective technology solutions.
  • Be responsible for integration between Tax platforms, SAP S/4HANA and other enterprise systems.
  • Lead technology investments, delivery plans and prioritisation decisions.

Automation, Data & Innovation

  • See opportunities to simplify processes and improve efficiency, accuracy and user experience.
  • Expand the use of automation, sophisticated analytics and AI-enabled capabilities across Tax operations.
  • Assess emerging technologies and industry trends to strengthen operational performance and controls.
  • Use data and performance insights to support continuous improvement and informed decision-making.
  • Help build future-ready technology capabilities for the Tax function.

Governance, Risk & Security

  • Embed cybersecurity, data governance and compliance requirements into technology solutions.
  • Ensure systems meet relevant legal, financial and regulatory obligations.
  • Identify and handle technology risks, implementing mitigation plans where vital.
  • Maintain high standards of data quality, integrity and security.

Stakeholder & Partner Leadership

  • Build strong partnerships across Tax, Finance and Technology teams.
  • Lead relationships with software providers, implementation partners and service suppliers.
  • Manage vendor performance, contracts and licensing arrangements.
  • Foster alignment across interested parties and help balance challenging priorities to achieve successful outcomes.

What you will bring

Experience

  • Degree qualification or equivalent experience in Technology, Finance, Information Systems or a related field.
  • Experience leading technology delivery, product management or enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • Experience leading technology portfolios, multi-functional teams and external delivery partners.
  • Knowledge of Tax technology solutions, including:
  • Tax compliance platforms
  • Tax reporting and calculation systems
  • Thomson Reuters Common Tax Engine or equivalent solutions
  • SAP S/4HANA integration
  • Experience delivering ERP, finance or enterprise platform transformations.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity, data governance and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience applying automation, analytics and AI-enabled solutions to improve business outcomes.
  • Knowledge of vendor, commercial and contract management practices.
