The Associate Scientific Director (ASD) is responsible for supporting the development of medical education for professional audiences as well as consumers. This position will provide support for medical, scientific, and strategic planning as well as content development and execution. In tandem with a Scientific Director, the ASD is responsible for developing new activity concepts/proposals (needs assessments, titles, learning objectives, agendas, etc.) and supporting the Scientific Director in content development, working with faculty, executing live and enduring projects, and analysis of activity outcomes. Likewise, this position will require extensive interaction with key opinion leaders (including clinical experts and patient influencers) as well as collaboration with cross-functional internal teams including Design, Educational Strategy, Grant Development, Program Management, Outcomes, Builds, and Logistics.

  • Assists in planning, writing, and directing content for medical education programs for medical professionals and consumers
    1. Develops slides and handouts in PowerPoint format
    2. Reviews posters/presentations from annual meetings pertinent to content development
    3. Performs necessary literature searches to verify scientific data and ensure accuracy and completeness of bibliography
    4. Ensures content is medically/scientifically accuracy and compliant
    5. Collaborates with faculty for content changes and updates to all content during development
    6. Establishes clear communication and effective relationships with contributing faculty and educational partners
    7. Ensures delivery of quality products efficiently under multiple timelines
    8. Assists in social media campaigns for live, online, and enduring activities
    9. Helps to oversee development of ARS and pre/post-test questions for educational activities
  • Writes evidence-based, clinically relevant medical content for proposals and needs assessments in a variety of therapeutic areas (includes suggested titles, educational gaps, learning objectives, agendas, and faculty, references for live and online activities) 
  • Assists in analyzing outcomes and survey data to generate capabilities presentations, supporter reports and presentations, needs data, abstracts, and presentations for industry meetings and publications
  • Contributes to establishing strategic goals
    1. Provides insight regarding evidence-based medical information, emerging therapies, practice-related issues, and medical education and pharmaceutical industry trends for strategic business planning 
    2. Reads medical literature, remains aware of late-breaking news/publications, and routinely observes competitive educational activities to ensure expertise in therapeutic areas and alignment
    3. Provides suggestions for content, format, slides, etc. based on latest evidence 
    4. Initiates and maintains relationships with program faculty in areas of expertise to ensure educational alignment and identify additional educational opportunities 
  • Performs additional supportive tasks to ensure timely execution of all project deliverables
  • Provides input/feedback to contribute to overall project success; e.g., help identify target audience, suggest ways to increase reach, etc.
  • Develops successful working interactions with other departments to meet timelines and project completion
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks and willing to accommodate to the changing demands of each project
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced environment
  • Knowledge of industry compliance/guidelines (ie, OIG, HIPAA, PhRMA, ACCME)
  • Basic Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, EndNote, and PubMed
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadline
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or above in science, writing or related field required or equivalent combination of education and experience (MD, PhD, PharmD, DO preferred)
  •  1-3 years experience in content direction and development for a continuing medical education/independent medical education company
