Job description

Function/Duties of Position:

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant interested in contributing to research aimed at understanding the neurobiological risk factors related to the development of substance use disorders. The chosen candidate will support ongoing research examining how individual differences in neurobiology contribute to features associated with substance use disorders, and whether laboratory-based interventions targeting neurobiology can produce corresponding changes in behavior, cognition, and psychological processes.

 

This position primarily involves interacting with study participants via email, phone/video calls, and in-person visits to determine study eligibility and collect study data. The role also requires detail-oriented computer work, including participant scheduling, data entry, data quality checks, and data management. The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, has a proven track record of learning new skills quickly, and is enthusiastic about contributing to the research mission. They will also assist with project-related administrative tasks, including data entry and export, maintaining study databases, organizing study materials, conducting basic data summaries, and supporting other general office duties in service of the study’s goals.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science field/No Experience OR AA (2 yr) degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in human subjects research related to substance use or mental health.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with adolescents and young adults in a professional, respectful, and engaging manner.
  • Ability to complete accurate documentation, data entry, and basic data processing tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in behavioral science field or with advanced degrees.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with neuroimaging experience.
  • Knowledge of human subjects research procedures, confidentiality requirements, and study protocol adherence.
  • Knowledge of brain imaging methods and related software packages, such as FSL, AFNI, or SPM, preferred.
  • Proficiency with common computer applications for data management (e.g., REDCap, Microsoft Office, Excel) and statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS).
