Job Summary:
We're hiring back-end engineers for our Platform team. Platform builds the shared services every Neumo application consumes: reporting, payments, search, authentication, messaging, file handling, and more. Our guiding principle is build once, use everywhere. When three products need the same capability, Platform owns it.
This is not single-product work. You'll design services that have to be reliable, secure, and multi-tenant from day one, because they're used by many applications at once. On any given day you might architect a new service, refactor an existing one to scale, instrument it for production, or pair with a product team to turn their requirements into a clean platform API.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Architect, build, and operate shared back-end services in Node.js that are consumed across Neumo's product portfolio.
- Design for multi-tenancy from the start: tenant isolation, data separation, and per-tenant configuration are core to everything we build.
- Build event-driven, serverless systems on AWS (Lambda, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, S3, RDS, Redshift).
- Own your services in production: monitoring, tracing, alerting, and incident response, not just the first deploy.
- Write and maintain automated tests across unit, integration, and regression layers, and keep coverage high.
- Treat security as part of the definition of done: dependency and vulnerability remediation, secrets management, and compliance on sensitive paths like payments.
- Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor) as part of your daily workflow, and review AI-generated code with the same rigor you'd apply to your own.
- Participate in design reviews and code reviews, and share what you learn so the whole team levels up.
- Partner with product and design to translate end-user requirements into pragmatic, scalable technical solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of back-end engineering experience, including production-grade, scalable systems in Node.js.
- Strong experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Solid experience with relational databases (we use PostgreSQL).
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, and comfort with serverless and event-driven patterns.
- Experience with automated testing and a real commitment to code quality.
- Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
- Experience with AWS serverless specifically (Lambda, EventBridge, Cognito, OpenSearch) and infrastructure as code (SAM, CloudFormation, or similar).
- Experience with message-based and event-driven architectures.
- Experience integrating or building payments systems, and familiarity with PCI compliance.
- Experience working with AI-assisted development tools in a production codebase.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication. Much of our team is distributed, so clear async communication matters.
- Highly motivated, self-guiding, and a constant learner who still loves contributing to team design and discussion.
- Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Willingness to take on new challenges.
- Must be reliable and responsible with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
Work Environment:
- Office setting with a moderate noise level.
- The employee will work at an individual workstation, using a telephone and computer.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to remain seated for extended periods.
- Regular use of a computer and other office machinery, such as printers and copy machines.
- Occasional movement around the office.
- Frequent communication via telephone.
