Lead Tableau Developer

Project Catalyst | Managed Services Engagement

Experience

8-12 Years Tableau | 3+ Years in a Lead or Manager Capacity

Environment

AWS Cloud | DB2 / SQL Server | Enterprise Healthcare Analytics

Position Summary

The Lead Tableau Developer is the most senior individual contributor and people leader within the Tableau practice at Presbyterian Healthcare Services' Analytics Organization. This role owns the full Tableau delivery function — from team management, platform governance, and enterprise architecture to executive stakeholder engagement and strategic roadmap planning. The Lead operates at the intersection of technology and business, ensuring the Tableau environment evolves from foundational stabilization toward a modern, self-service-enabled analytics platform. As a key leader within Project Catalyst, this individual is accountable for team performance, delivery excellence, and the long-term health of PHS's Tableau investment.

Key Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end governance of the Tableau environment, including ~200 dashboards, ~236 workbooks, published data sources, and Tableau Server/Cloud administration

Architect scalable, reusable data source frameworks and extract strategies optimized for the AWS-hosted analytics environment

Lead platform modernization planning including migration to newer Tableau capabilities (e.g., Tableau Pulse, Tableau AI, embedded analytics)

Own Tableau Server/Cloud health — monitoring, performance tuning, capacity planning, upgrade management, and license optimization

Drive workload rationalization — identifying dashboards for consolidation, retirement, or self-service migration as part of ongoing platform hygiene

Oversee the full Tableau delivery lifecycle: intake, prioritization, design, development, QA, release, and post-production support

Manage L2/L3 escalations and serve as the final technical decision-maker for complex incidents, data discrepancies, and environment issues

Own SLA adherence across all Tableau-related queues: incidents, service requests, small-ticket enhancements, and larger backlog items

Lead monthly release cycles, ensuring production readiness, change control compliance, and blackout window adherence

Drive automation and self-service initiatives to reduce high-volume manual work (dataset refreshes, extract modifications, report distribution)

Maintain full backlog visibility in ServiceNow — ensuring accurate classification, aging management, capacity tracking, and executive reporting

Engage at the immediate stakeholders to show the weekly status, monthly status reports.

Own CSAT measurement and improvement for the Tableau delivery domain, proactively identifying and resolving satisfaction risks

Communicate delivery performance, capacity constraints, backlog health, and roadmap progress through weekly and monthly reporting

Develop and maintain the multi-year Tableau platform roadmap aligned to PHS's Project Catalyst modernization objectives

Identify and implement year-over-year delivery efficiency gains through standardization, automation, and process optimization

Evaluate and pilot emerging Tableau capabilities, AI-assisted analytics, and cloud-native integrations to advance PHS's analytics maturity

Lead knowledge management across the Tableau team — runbooks, design standards, onboarding playbooks, and continuity documentation

Required Qualifications

Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, or a related quantitative field

8-12 years of enterprise Tableau development experience with deep expertise in advanced calculations, LOD expressions, performance optimization, and data modeling

Good hands-on Experience with Business Objects.

Experience with the SAS enterprise guide.

3+ years in a formal lead, manager, or team lead capacity overseeing Tableau developers or a BI delivery team

Proven experience owning a large-scale Tableau environment (150+ workbooks) end-to-end in a complex, multi-stakeholder organization

Advanced SQL proficiency (IBM DB2 and/or SQL Server strongly preferred) including query optimization and data warehouse concepts

Expert-level Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud administration — permissions, extract management, subscriptions, multi-site governance, and upgrade planning

Demonstrated ability to engage and influence executive stakeholders, translate business strategy into analytics solutions, and manage competing priorities

Experience operating within a managed services or outsourced delivery model, with accountability for SLAs, throughput, and CSAT

Strong experience with ITSM platforms (ServiceNow preferred) for backlog governance, reporting, and operational transparency

Exceptional communication, presentation, and leadership skills with experience reporting to senior leadership

Preferred Qualifications

Healthcare analytics experience across health plan (PHP), delivery system (PDS/PMG), population health, or clinical quality domains

Hands-on AWS experience with Tableau integration — Redshift, S3-based data lakes, AWS Glue, or Athena

Tableau Certified Architect, Server Administrator, or equivalent senior-level certification

Experience leading BI platform modernization — on-premises to cloud migration, platform consolidation, or self-service rollout at enterprise scale

Familiarity with complementary enterprise analytics tools: BusinessObjects (BoBJ), SAS, IBM DataStage, or Oracle GoldenGate

Knowledge of HIPAA, HITRUST, or CMS regulatory compliance requirements in the context of healthcare data and reporting

Experience with agile or hybrid delivery methodologies in an analytics or data engineering context
