Job description

The Mesh& WiFi Device Testing Engineer is responsible for the qualification,validation, and performance testing of Telstra WiFi mesh products, includingTelstra Smart Modems and Telstra Smart Boosters, including all BB devices. Therole works closely with internal product leads, engineering teams, and multipleexternal vendors, following Agile ways of working to ensure high-quality,customer-ready devices.

This rolerequires a proactive, fast-learning engineer who can hit the ground running,adapt quickly to complex mesh technologies. You will initially work alongsidemore experienced testers to enable you to gradually gain hands-on experience.

KeyResponsibilities

Device& Mesh Testing

  • Perform interoperability qualification and validation testing between Telstra WiFi Boosters and Telstra Smart Modems
  • Execute end-to-end mesh testing on Telstra Smart Modems, ensuring compliance with expected behaviour and industry standards.
  • Conduct sanity, regression, and stability testing on firmware upgrades and downgrades for boosters and gateways.
  • Perform manual WiFi performance testing, including coverage, throughput, roaming behaviour, failover, reconnection, and overall mesh effectiveness.
  • Execute booster onboarding and connectivity testing using Ethernet and WPS, validating 2.4GHz / 5GHz behaviour, channel changes, and client connectivity.

TestExecution & Defect Management

  • Capture logs, record results, and clearly document findings during test execution.
  • Raise defects and observations through standard tracking and reporting processes using JIRA, ensuring all supporting logs, evidence, and reproduction steps are included.
  • Support root cause analysis activities by providing clear test data and validating fixes.

Collaboration& Vendor Engagement

  • Work closely with product leads, engineering teams, and vendors to plan, execute, and validate test activities.
  • Generate clear and concise test reports and updates for wider stakeholder consumption.
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and ways of working.

Lab &Site Activities

  • Maintain a strong on-site presence at the 400 George Street lab, with flexibility to work from home, on certain days as required.
  • Support lab and colocation activities involving modems, smart boosters, and mesh equipment.

SkillsRequired:

KeyTechnical Knowledge

  • WIFI, Booster, Mesh experience desired but not mandatory.
  • Understanding of WiFi and networking fundamentals, including channels, bands, backhaul vs fronthaul, client association, MAC, BSSID, and mesh concepts.
  • Experience with consumer networking devices, including gateways, boosters, and home network setups.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Ubuntu/Linux command-line environments.
  • Ability to understand logs and expected device behaviour during testing.

  • JIRA (test execution, defect tracking, reporting)
  • Proprietary in-house monitoring and mesh diagnostic tools
  • Telstra Smart Modems and Telstra Smart Boosters
  • Firmware testing and validation environments

Nice toHave

  • Basic scripting experience (e.g. Python, Bash).
  • Exposure to test case automation or scripting-based validation.
  • Flexibility to support a significant amount of on-site lab work when needed.
