The Consultant, Digital Product Owner is accountable for delivery for Nationwide’s Personal Lines Servicing digital experiences, with primary ownership of Digital Wallet and Billing & Payment for web. This experienced, outcome-focused Product Owner brings strong digital product and software development lifecycle expertise; designs with both agents and end customers in mind; and leverages agile ways of working, compelling storytelling, and practical awareness of Scrum practices and IT infrastructure. The role engages across the full product lifecycle, with emphasis on Delivery, Discovery, and Journey Enablement—leading digital product execution, backlog management, and removal of blockers while partnering closely with the Digital Product Manager, Business Solutions Delivery and Transformation team, Technology, peer Product Owners, and other cross-functional stakeholders to drive measurable customer and business outcomes. Working Eastern hours preferred.

The strong preference for this role is to be hybrid to the Columbus, OH offices but remote considerations will be made.

As a Consultant, you'll be the liaison among the Digital Product Manager, other products owners and key team members to develop the product vision and strategy. You'll work to discover, refine and deliver a product that addresses user needs while creating the right user experience. We'll count on you to collaborate across teams to engage, empower and ensure priorities and project goals are achieved.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Partners with Digital Product Manager and other Digital Product Owners to execute on the solution vision/roadmap. Serves as the customer and business proxy to developers and agile delivery teams for a digital product and/or experience impacting a line of business.
  • Defines, prioritizes and grooms the agile delivery team's product backlog to ensure continuous delivery, as well as, develops, prioritizes and manages epics and user stories for the delivery team.
  • Participates in daily scrum meetings, grooming meetings, project status meetings, sprint planning and review meetings. Drives near-term objectives planning by overlaying the prioritize backlog against fixed time blocks (monthly/quarterly) to help manage interdependencies and coordination across development teams.
  • Participates in planning and execution of user acceptance testing, triage issues and works with development team to resolve any challenges/issues.
  • Defines, monitors and analyzes metrics that inform the success of the digital solution(s).

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director, Digital Product Management. This is an individual contributor role.

Typical Skills and Experiences: 


Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration, digital marketing, human-computer interaction, user experience, computer science or related subject area.

License/Certification/Designation: Property/casualty insurance and/or life/health/accident/variable annuity licensing and/or FINRA 6 and 26 securities registration, CLU, CPCU, CPU, FLMI certifications are a plus.

Experience: Typically, eight or more years of demonstrated experience delivering customer-facing digital solutions, internet sales, website or web application development and/or research. Experience with agile delivery methodologies and product management/owner principles. Project management in an internet sales environment required.
 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Understanding of key digital technologies in the focus area assigned required. Insurance and financial services industry knowledge a plus. Understanding of agile delivery methodologies and product owner/manager practices required. Knowledge of user experience principles and practices a plus. Proven ability to manage digital efforts with moderate technical complexity for a line of business and/or experience. Strong ability to communicate with cross-functional agile teams including technology developers, user experience, business, marketing and other product owners and managers. Ability to analysis data, results and metrics to set backlog priorities. Strong project and process management skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. 

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experience may take precedence.

The expected starting salary range for Consultant, Digital Product Owner : $118,000.00 - $178,000.00
