Job Role: Junior SMSF Accountant

Compensation range: $2,000 AUD - $2,400 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Role Overview: We are seeking Junior SMSF Accountants to prepare financial statements, tax returns, and compliance documentation for Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs). In this role, you'll collaborate with accountants, client service teams, and external auditors to deliver accurate, timely work while contributing to a growing SMSF specialist practice with opportunities for long-term career progression.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare SMSF accounts, financial statements, tax returns, and supporting workpapers accurately and within deadlines.
  • Perform bank, contribution, investment, and income reconciliations using Class Super.
  • Maintain review-ready documentation to support compliance and audit requirements.
  • Apply your knowledge of Class Super in the preparation and processing of SMSF accounts.
  • Assist with SMSF property investment matters, including Limited Recourse Borrowing Arrangements (LRBAs), under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Escalate technical queries and address review feedback to ensure timely completion of assigned work.
  • Support audit preparation by compiling and organizing required documentation.
  • Manage your workload effectively while meeting deadlines and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or tertiary qualification in Accounting.
  • At least 2 years of experience in SMSF account processing and tax return preparation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Class Super (required).
  • Experience with BGL Simple Fund 360 is highly regarded.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with XPM and CAS is an advantage.
  • Exposure to SMSF property investments and Limited Recourse Borrowing Arrangements (LRBAs), or a willingness to learn.
  • Proven ability to work independently with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail with a methodical and organized approach to work.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth in SMSF accounting.
