Job description

Who we are

At OpenUp, our mission is to make mental well-being accessible to everyone. We support companies, their employees, and their families with proactive and practical mental health services. Through our platform, clients can access 1:1 check-ins, online courses, articles, videos, group sessions, mindfulness practices, and a team of committed experts. We believe that mental and physical well-being are deeply connected. With Lifestyle Experts focusing on nutrition, exercise, and sleep, we offer a truly holistic approach that helps people take ownership of their health. We’re proud to work with forward-thinking organizations and are committed to raising the bar on accessible care.

OpenUp is ranked in the Top 3 on LinkedIn’s Top Startups list for 2023, 2024 & 2025. We are expanding our international teams and we are searching for like-minded talent. We are already helping over 2000+ (international) companies and 550K+ employees, e.g. Rituals, Deloitte, Decathlon, KPMG, and McDonalds.

About the assignment

To support our clients and ensure accessibility outside office hours, we are looking for junior psychologists who want to gain real-world exposure while contributing to our mission of making mental well-being direct, approachable, and impactful.

At OpenUp, we focus on prevention. We don’t diagnose or provide therapy. We support people with everyday challenges such as work-related stress, self-confidence, relationship dynamics, or uncertainty about direction in life.

In this role, your main responsibility will be covering the 24/7 on-call line. Outside office hours, users sometimes reach out briefly with practical questions or because they need immediate emotional support, for example during moments of acute stress, anxiety, or panic. Your role is to be a calm, clear first point of contact: helping users feel heard, grounded, and supported, while guiding them towards the right next step. This is not about providing therapy at night.

You will work with a clear protocol, supported by documentation and escalation guidelines. Your input will be briefly documented and handed over to the day team when needed.

Alongside the on-call responsibility, you will be invited to a structured learning path, including intervision sessions, case reflections, and expert-led discussions. The time and cost of this learning path are included in the fee.
While this is a freelance role, it offers meaningful exposure to applied mental health support in an international, fast-growing organization.

About you

You’re a junior psychologist who wants to build experience in a practical, real-world setting and feels comfortable being a first point of contact for users. You communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure, and know how to stick to boundaries.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds a Master’s degree in Psychology
  • Has 1–3 years of experience in psychological support, coaching, or related settings
  • Is highly reliable, reflective and motivated to learn through practice
  • Has native-level fluency in German, and strong English communication skills
  • Feels confident explaining processes, setting expectations, and redirecting users when needed
  • Understands the difference between support, guidance, and therapy
  • Is tech-savvy and comfortable working with digital tools and protocols
  • Owns a laptop/computer with Windows 10 or later, or MacOS Ventura or later, with antivirus enabled
  • Can work independently, follow clear procedures, and take responsibility during on-call shifts

What you can expect

Join us at a time of exciting growth, where your expertise and ideas are valued. Here’s what you can expect:

  • A freelance on-call role, primarily focused on 24/7 coverage
  • On-call shifts for one or two full weeks per month, covering:
  • Weekdays: 5:00 PM–8:00 AM
  • Weekends: Friday 5:00 PM–Monday 8:00 AM
  • Fixed payment per week for being on call, regardless of call volume.
  • Access to intervision and expert input included in the fee.
  • Clear protocols, scripts, and escalation logic so you’re never guessing
  • Full onboarding and testing before your first on-call shift
  • Exposure to an international user base and real-life mental health questions
  • Collaboration with experienced psychologists and a supportive operations team
