Position Overview

We're seeking a Project Associate, Structural Engineering to join our Structural Engineering team. This role is ideal for an early-career structural engineer looking to grow their technical expertise while gaining hands-on experience in structural inspections, retrofit design, investigation, and restoration projects. Working alongside senior engineers and project managers, you'll support projects from initial investigation through construction administration while developing your technical and project management skills.


What You'll Do

  • Assist with structural inspections, evaluations, investigations, and condition assessments of existing buildings. 
  • Perform structural analysis and assist in developing repair and retrofit solutions for concrete, steel, masonry, and wood structures. 
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings, and project documentation. 
  • Support the development of construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates. 
  • Participate in site investigations and field inspections, including work from scaffolding and lifts as needed.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, consultants, and internal project teams throughout all phases of a project. 
  • Assist with permitting and regulatory filing documentation. 
  • Prepare and modify drawings using AutoCAD. 
  • Support construction administration activities, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting site observations. 
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure work complies with applicable building codes and company quality standards. 

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (structural concentration preferred). 
  • 3–5 years of structural engineering experience. 
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or ability to obtain shortly after hire.
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis principles and California building codes. 
  • Experience using AutoCAD. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. 
  • Comfortable working at heights and performing field inspections. 

Preferred

  • Experience with existing buildings, façade restoration, or structural rehabilitation. 
  • Familiarity with seismic evaluation and retrofit projects. 
  • Experience using structural analysis software (RAM, ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, or similar). 
  • Progress toward obtaining a California Professional Engineer (PE) license. 

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Remote position based in San Francisco, CA. 
  • Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM. 
  • Moderate field work required (approximately 25–50%). 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range:$100,000-$115,000 based on knowledge, skills, and experience.
