Job description

At Horace Mann, we understand that an auto accident can be a stressful experience. As an Auto Claims Adjuster I, you'll play a vital role in helping our customers navigate the claims process with confidence, compassion, and professionalism.

In this role, you'll investigate auto claims, determine coverage and liability, evaluate damages, and work toward fair and timely claim resolutions. You'll collaborate with customers, repair facilities, and business partners while delivering an exceptional claims experience that reflects Horace Mann's commitment to serving educators and their families.

Must be flexible to work shift between 7a-7p central time. 

Key Responsibilities

Claims Investigation & Evaluation

  • Verify insurance coverage and investigate liability and the scope of damages.
  • Investigate claims and explain applicable coverages to customers.
  • Determine liability based on applicable state laws and company guidelines.
  • Identify the appropriate inspection channel for physical damage evaluations and recognize unrelated prior damage.
  • Evaluate claim facts and determine claim value while working toward timely and appropriate claim resolution.

Claims Resolution

  • Negotiate fair claim settlements while adhering to company best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage claim correspondence and maintain an accurate, organized inventory of assigned claims.
  • Ensure claims are handled accurately, efficiently, and within established service standards.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Provide proactive, transparent, and timely communication with customers and all involved parties throughout the claims process.
  • Deliver an extraordinary customer experience by demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and responsiveness.
  • Build positive relationships with customers, repair facilities, and internal business partners.

Compliance & Professional Development

  • Maintain compliance with company policies, state regulations, and claims handling standards.
  • Obtain required State Mandated Adjuster Licenses within three months of hire.
  • Continuously develop technical claims knowledge and stay current with regulatory changes and industry best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must obtain and maintain required state adjuster licenses within three months of hire.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply state-specific claims regulations and company procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Previous insurance, claims, customer service, or related experience.
  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment requiring critical thinking and sound decision-making.

Additional Information

  • Periodic travel may be required.

Pay Range:

  • $24.18 - $33.05/hr. + bonus

Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
