Job description

ROLE SUMMARY

As an Electrical Design Engineer III, you’ll lead high-impact electrical design work for utility-scale PV Solar, Battery Storage (BESS), and substation projects; turning complex requirements into buildable, code-compliant solutions.

You’ll bring seasoned technical judgment, take ownership from concept through IFC deliverables, and collaborate with a supportive, mission-driven team that values craftsmanship, curiosity, and continuous improvement. This role is built for an experienced engineer ready to mentor others, elevate quality, and make a meaningful difference in the energy transition.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

ENGINEERING & TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create electrical engineering plans, details, and calculations for renewable energy and substation projects.
  • Independently provide design drawings, including but not limited to one-line and three-line diagrams, electrical layouts, AC/DC schematics, AC/DC cable schedules, wiring diagrams, grounding, trenching, and conduit details.
  • Create equipment specifications for and apply knowledge of renewable energy systems including PV solar modules, inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transformers, cable management systems, and balance-of-system (BOS).
  • Design a project, system, component, or process, and prepare project documentation.
  • Formulate and solve problems.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard procedures and criteria.
  • Develop a work plan for project tasks and discipline team members.
  • Lead multiple projects and may act as Engineer of Record.

QUALITY & COLLABORATION

  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes.
  • Support client interaction for multiple projects in a single portfolio.
  • Assign tasks to and direct discipline team members to complete assignments.
  • Provide mentoring for staff engineers.
  • Assist with proposals to provide professional services.
  • Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments with high proficiency and confidence.
  • Receive guidance when necessary on unconventional or complex problems, and a review of completed work for application of sound professional judgment.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform essential duties, including meeting deliverables and deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, another engineering field with extensive electrical coursework, or similar.
  • 5+ years of experience as an engineer in an electrical engineering design role.
  • 2+ years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy system design engineering.
  • Advanced skills in AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with reading and applying sections of the NEC and reading and understanding codes and standards.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be both creative and analytical.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Efficient time management – handle multiple projects simultaneously and with minimal supervision, including prioritizing, organizing, and planning effectively to meet all deadlines.

PREFERRED

  • Prior experience with PV Repower projects is desirable.
  • Experience supporting large-scale complex PV Solar & Storage projects is strongly preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure or EIT Certificate is a plus.
