Senior DevOps Engineer 

At Bayer, we are committed to transparency, equal pay for equal work or work of equal value, and objective reward practices in line with EU and local regulations. The minimum monthly gross compensation for this role is 20 240 with final pay determined based on objective factors such as experience, qualifications, scope of responsibility, and internal alignment.

This position is eligible for variable pay components, such as performance‑based bonuses, awarded in accordance with the applicable employee group, role scope, and compensation structure.

Senior DevOps Engineer 

Brilliant data analytics and AI solutions mean nothing if they never reach the people who need them – reliably, at scale, and on time. You will be part of Bayer Consumer Health's ambitious Data assets, analytics and AI team: taking our solutions from proof of concept to fully operationalized, production-grade systems that serve commercial, marketing, product supply, and science domains worldwide. Your focus is deploying, orchestrating, and operating workloads on our Azure based cloud platform so that every model, pipeline, and application runs smoothly, scales effortlessly, and recovers gracefully. From configuring CI/CD pipelines that accelerate time to market, to implementing monitoring and reliability strategies that keep production systems healthy – you will be the person who ensures our data analytics and AI capabilities actually land in the hands of the business. This is a high-impact, operations-meets-engineering role, and the deployment and operationalization decisions you make will determine how fast and how reliably AI-driven value reaches the entire organization.     

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

• The Operationalization Expert: You drive the industrialization of AI solutions – taking them from experimental notebooks to robust, monitored, production-ready systems. You ensure efficiency across the entire development and deployment process with a relentless focus on reducing time to market. 
  
  
• The Solution Engineer: You configure, test and deploy workloads on Azure – leveraging Azure Container Apps, Azure Functions, PostgreSQL, Redis, Azure Databricks, and Azure Data Factory. You scale AI solutions and optimize them for processing time and cost. 
  
  
• The CI/CD & Automation Engineer: You build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ensuring seamless version control, automated testing, and continuous delivery. You propose and implement tools that increase code quality and enforce coding best practices. 
  
  
• The Reliability Guardian: You implement monitoring, alerting, and backup strategies that ensure robustness and availability. You respond to system failures swiftly and implement solutions to prevent them from re-occurring. 
  
  
• The MLOps Expert: You enhance reproducibility and scalability of AI workflows, building frameworks for efficient experimentation and deployment. You build reusable patterns, templates, and automation that accelerate the entire AI engineering team. 

• The Collaborative Engineer: You work in close partnership with Data Scientists and AI Engineers, managing the entire lifecycle of AI products with a focus on industrialization and operations. You participate early in AI product development by formulating requirements that facilitate deployment. 
  
  
• The Architecture Contributor: You proactively contribute to discussions about solution architecture by proposing improvements and outlining existing problems. You contribute to complex projects employing generative AI, machine learning, time series forecasting, mathematical optimization, simulation, and NLP techniques. 

Qualifications & Competencies (education, skills, experience):

• Master's or PhD degree with 5+ years of experience in DevOps, MLOps, ML/AI Engineering, Software Development, or related fields 
• Proven background in at least one of: Machine Learning, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related quantitative/engineering disciplines 
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipeline design, solution orchestration, and performance tuning 
• Strong engineering skills in Python, SQL, PowerShell, Docker, GitHub Actions, and Bash 
• Proficiency with Azure's web application stack – particularly Azure Container Apps, Azure Functions, PostgreSQL, and Redis 
• Good understanding of the Linux operating system 
• Good understanding of deploying workloads to Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory 
• Proven track record of developing advanced analytics products or backend applications within a cloud environment 
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a pragmatic, production-first engineering mindset 
• Fluent in English, both written & spoken 

Nice-to-Have 

• Experience with machine learning, generative AI, forecasting, or mathematical optimization 
• Experience with AI observability, monitoring frameworks, and automated testing 
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, ARM Templates) 
• Experience with usage of AI tools to increase own productivity 
• Understanding of semantic layer and data management concepts for enterprise data
