JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Performs routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting including cage maintenance, monitoring equipment for proper functioning and maintaining sanitary conditions.
  • Operates washers and ensures that cage washing and related equipment are in proper working order by cleaning and performing preventative maintenance.
  • Performs routine start-up and shut down procedures.
  • Operates autoclave to sterilize or decontaminate caging equipment.
  • Provides routine maintenance to caging equipment.
  • Assists in installation of caging and other non-fixed facility equipment.
  • Makes minor repairs to caging equipment.
  • Assists in receiving and storing materials, food and supplies.
  • Transports caging supplies between animal rooms and cage wash rooms.
  • Maintains sanitary conditions of cage washing rooms and other ancillary areas, such as hallways and storage areas.
  • Assists in training new technicians in techniques and procedures related to routine cage sanitation.
  • Provides guidance and direction to cage wash trainees and technicians.
  • Works independently.
  • Acts in a lead capacity in the cage wash area under the supervision of a facility manager.
  • Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals and power equipment.
  • Uses personal protective equipment as required.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of cage wash or animal care experience.
  • The ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
