Job description

Job Summary 

The Business Development Manager plays a critical role in driving growth through the identification and cultivation of new corporate partnerships and sponsorship opportunities. This role is responsible for creating and executing strategic business development plans, prospecting and building relationships with key stakeholders, and positioning the organization as a valuable partner in mission-aligned fundraising opportunities. In addition to securing new partnerships, this individual contributes to stakeholder engagement, brand positioning, event execution, and the creation of compelling partner-facing materials. Success in this role requires a blend of strategic thinking, relationship-building, and cross-functional collaboration to maximize impact and support the organization’s long-term sustainability. 

 

 

Core Duties  

  1. Business Development - Create a business development plan to identify, evaluate, and structure key transactions to ensure continued financial health and maximum value new partnerships. 
  2. Partner Relationships Development / Prospecting - Develop and implement a relationship management plan for potential customer accounts to identify and build relationships with relevant decision-makers and influencers within the customer organization and to enable effective two-way flow of information and resolution of issues. 
  3. Corporate Sponsor Identification - Guide a complex area or process on corporate sponsorship identification. 
  4. Stakeholder Engagement - Contribute to stakeholder engagement by identifying stakeholders; by finding out their needs, issues, and concerns; and by reacting to these needs, issues, and concerns, arranging meetings and events and drafting supporting materials to promote understanding and commitment. 
  5. Fundraising Opportunities Creation - Develop a personal network within assigned territory and represent the organization at trade shows and other events to identify sales opportunities, promote the organization, and enhance its reputation. 
  6. Pitch Partner Propositions - Use personal expertise to identify the complex standard services offered by the organization that meets the customer's needs. 
  7. CRM Management - Use of Salesforce to manage prospect activity, track sales pipeline performance, and maintain accurate prospect and opportunity records throughout the sales cycle. Utilize Salesforce reporting and CRM tools to identify new business opportunities, support forecasting efforts, and drive strategic outreach initiatives. Ensure consistent CRM best practices to strengthen relationships, improve sales efficiency, and support revenue growth. 

 

Additional Duties  

  1. Content creation - Create and customize sales materials to effectively describe and define concepts and programs and how they strategically align. 
  2. Brand Positioning - Ensure the application of brand guidelines and brand templates and inform the organization of the importance of brand alignment and positioning. 
  3. Build Collaborative Relationships - Build collaborative relationships in an environment, focusing on building internal and external networks that facilitate collaboration and partnerships across the value chain. 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

 

Education 

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in business, non-profit, administration, or similar field 

 

Experience 

  • 2-5 years relevant experience in non-profit fundraising or business development 
  • Experience building strong relationships, advance strategic opportunities, and successfully close meaningful, high-impact partnerships.  
  • Proficiency with Salesforce (or comparable CRM platform), including pipeline management, opportunity tracking, reporting, forecasting, and maintaining accurate customer relationship data. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Proficiency with Asana (or comparable project management platform), including project planning, task management, stakeholder coordination, deadline tracking, and ensuring the successful execution of cross-functional initiatives. 
  • Track record of securing six-figure and high-value sponsorship or partnership agreements, including opportunities valued at $50,000 or greater.  
  • Experience managing a robust sales or business development pipeline with annual revenue responsibility of $250,000–$500,000+, including prospect cultivation, forecasting, negotiation, and account growth.
