Title:                                    Senior PrincipalConsultant

Based:                                 Remote working – UK time zonerequired

Type                                     Full time permanentposition

Salary:                                Paying up to €75k base – this willdepend on a case-by-case basis.

Jobdescription:

Thepurpose of the role is to work with leading mining companies, industryorganisations and finance institutions in the integration of nature intobusiness decision-making. You will be playing a crucial part in shaping thefuture of nature sustainability for the mining sector. The role will alsoinvolve working across a broader range of sectors including linearinfrastructure, ports and agriculture through the application of lendersafeguards, notably the International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standard6.

 

Responsibilities:

Projectdelivery

·         Project Management: consisting oftechnical design of complex projects, ensuring timely delivery of on-budgetprojects to the requisite level of quality and technical substance.

 

Projectsmay include:

·         Undertaking assessments to understandsite level project risks and impacts and identifying opportunities formitigation including offset.

·         Environmental and Social Due Diligenceof large, complex projects across mining, infrastructure, and agriculturesectors

·         Undertaking assessments to identifyportfolio level risks, impacts and dependencies on nature and preparation ofstrategies to mitigate risks and optimise opportunities.

·         Other duties commensurate with therole.

 

Strategyand business development

·         Developing strategic and innovativeproposals of work with new or existing clients.

·         Expand the business through networkingand relationship building with global business forums, academia, NGOs etc.

 

Innovationand communication

·         Public speaking on behalf of TBC,including writing, reviewing and delivering webinars and in-personpresentations to elevate our visibility as a trusted brand for the miningsector.

·         Writing and reviewing material forscientific and business press, TBC website and publications

·         Work with senior staff and ourtechnical research and development team to develop approaches, metrics andtools for assessing and mitigating biodiversity impacts of complex, large-scaleprojects in areas of sensitive biodiversity.

·         Keeping abreast of currentnature-related issues for international business and development projects.

 

Teammanagement

·         Line management of juniorconsultant(s), mentoring and supporting their professional development.

·         Provision of technical leadership inspecific sectoral or thematic areas.

 



Requirements

Essentialattributes:

·         At least ten years’ relevantexperience in development projects with a focus on mining.

·         Experience of applying lenderrequirements, particularly International Finance Corporation’s PerformanceStandard 6, to development projects in emerging economies in extractives,and/or agribusiness sectors

·         Solid consultancy experience

·         Experience of managing and deliveringmultiple complex projects

·         Excellent writing and verbalcommunication skills

·         Sufficient GIS skills to design andevaluate analyses with our GIS team

·         Willingness and enthusiasm to travelglobally and work in challenging environments

·         Good track record of businessdevelopment and client relationship management

·         A good Honours degree in a relevantdiscipline.

 

Desirableattributes (NOT essential):

·         A background as a field conservationspecialist, understanding how to make conservation theory work in practice withcommunities and governments.

·         Experience of reviewing work and providingQAQC

·         Proven ability to work in French orSpanish

·         Experience of supervising or managingindividuals and/or small teams

·         A postgraduate qualification or a PhDin a relevant discipline.

·         Experience working in Africa, LatinAmerica, or Asia.
