Job description

Editor (Contract)

Position Type: Contract (Backfill Cover) Term: August 15, 2026 - November 15, 2026

Location: Remote

Role Overview: RealAgriculture is seeking a sharp, agile Contract Editor to step in and keep our digital content engine firing on all cylinders. This role is less about pushing buttons behind a soundboard and more about driving the editorial ship for Canada's digital ag authority.

You will be responsible for chasing stories, shaping digital content, and managing the guest pipeline for our flagship properties, ensuring RealAgriculture.com remains the go-to source for the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the Editorial Funnel: Work closely with the entire content team to pitch, assign, and shape high-performing articles and digital pieces for RealAgriculture.com.
  •  Story & Guest Chasing: Monitor social media, industry news, and breaking ag trends to identify unique angles, hot topics, and the smart, articulate voices needed for written features and guest spots.
  • Email Planning: Ensure that the RealAg emails have enough stories based on what readers need to know in the specific email categories.
  • Optimize Content Performance: Analyze internet traffic, audience feedback, and social media performance to push for fresh angles, follow-up stories, or better representation of diverse viewpoints.
  • Multimedia Collaboration: Brainstorm ideas and source guests for webinars, podcasts, and video series, ensuring a seamless bridge between written editorial and digital media.
  • Content Repurposing: Facilitate the extraction of key highlights, quotes, and clips from our media properties to turn them into sharp editorial write-ups or social-first content (collaborating closely with our social media coordinator).

Candidate Profile:

  • Senior Editor with a background in Journalism, or a Journalism degree.
  • Experience in the Agriculture industry is an asset, but not required.

What Makes This Role So Great:

  • The Ag Media Leader: Your work will be seen by the entire industry.
  • Unique Culture: We operate with a fast-paced, collaborative, and unique work culture that values autonomy and accountability to each other and the audience.
  • Creative Freedom: We don't just report the news; we analyze it and provide perspective. You will have the room to express your creative spirit and editorial voice.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation dependent on experience.
  • Phone & internet stipend to cover operational costs.

Note: As this is a specific contract backfill role, standard full-time benefits (health/dental, pension, standard vacation accrual) are not available.
