A Day in the Life

The Global Mobility Consultant is responsible for leading the company's global immigration program of 70+ countries in partnership with external immigration service providers, and manages a broad range of international mobility activities, including global assignments, one-way international transfers, commuter arrangements, and other cross-border employment scenarios.

This role serves as the primary point of contact for employees, managers, HR partners, and external vendors, ensuring a seamless employee experience while maintaining compliance with immigration, tax, payroll, and employment regulations.

         

         

This is a remote role with strong preference for candidates living near Operational Headquarters (OHQ) in MN for regular in person meetings.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

 

Global Immigration Program Management

  • Lead and manage the company's global immigration program in partnership with external immigration providers.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for immigration-related matters and provide guidance to employees, managers, and HR stakeholders.

  • Monitor immigration compliance requirements and ensure adherence to local laws and company policies.

  • Manage vendor performance, service delivery, reporting, and continuous process improvement initiatives.

  • Partner with HR, Payroll, Tax, Legal and business leaders to address complex immigration matters and mitigate risk.

Global Mobility Program Consulting

  • Manage end-to-end mobility cases, including:

    • Long-term and short-term international assignments

    • One-way international transfers

    • International commuter arrangements

    • Business traveler and other cross-border employment scenarios

  • Provide consultation and guidance to HR partners, managers, and employees on mobility policies, program requirements, and assignment-related considerations.

  • Coordinate with external vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of mobility arrangements.

  • Oversee mobility documentation, cost projections, approvals, and case tracking.

  • Ensure alignment across immigration, tax, payroll, compensation, benefits, and relocation workstreams.

Program Governance and Operations

  • Maintain and enhance global mobility policies, processes, and operational guidelines.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve the employee and stakeholder experience.

  • Track mobility program metrics and provide reporting and insights to leadership.

  • Support audits and compliance reviews related to mobility and immigration activities.

  • Stay informed on evolving immigration, employment, and mobility trends and regulations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum Requirements (must have)

  • Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of experience in global immigration, global mobility, international HR, or a related field. Or advanced degree and 5+ years of experience.

Key Skills/Experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing global immigration programs and working with external immigration vendors.

  • Strong understanding of international assignment administration, cross-border employment, and mobility program operations.

  • Experience partnering with HR, Legal, Payroll, Tax, Compensation, and business stakeholders.

  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Excellent communication and consulting skills.

  • Experience supporting a multinational organization with a globally distributed workforce.

  • Knowledge of global mobility tax, payroll, and compliance considerations.

  • Experience with mobility and immigration case management systems.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$110,400.00 - $165,600.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
