Job description

Job Summary   

The Financial Services Team Lead provides oversight and leadership to the Financial Services department. As part of the 

Financial Services leadership team, the Team Lead will assist the Financial Services Manager with the scheduling, 

planning, and training of the team to ensure all work products, solutions, and recommendations are accurate and 

compliant with federal, state, and other agency regulatory requirements. He/She is also responsible for assisting in the 

overall project management control of Financial Services’ projects. The Team Lead will also assist the Financial Services 

Manager in preparing reports, developing and updating processes, and providing motivation, leadership, and assistance to the Financial Services Analysts. 

  

Key Responsibilities 

I. 

  • Assists in managing the financial aid process 

  •  Provides support to the Financial Services Manager and Financial Services Analysts in the accurate and timely review of all student files; including verification, ISIR corrections, professional judgments, COD rejects, conflicting information, approving funds, calculating R2T4s, processing credit balances, answering financial aid inquiries from students and staff, and ensuring academic years, payment periods, loan periods, term codes, and disbursement dates are accurate. 

  • Provides instruction, assistance, and leadership to support the financial aid process and support Financial 

  • Services objectives and goals. 

  •  Prepares reports for the Financial Services Manager reflecting team activity to ensure critical information is conveyed on a timely basis. 

II. 

  • Ensures compliance with Title IV policy 

  • Is a subject matter expert on financial aid policy (Federal and Delta) to ensure Delta is in compliance with all federal regulations and institutional procedures. 

  •  Assists the Financial Services Manager with responding to internal quality assurance findings and recommending improvements where necessary. 

III. 

  • Provides financial aid customer service 

  • Responds to inquiries and requests from staff and students to ensure prompt resolution of financial aid issues. 

  • Ensures Financial Services Analysts review student files within the terms of the service level agreement and Federal regulations. 

  • Communicates regularly and effectively with various team members including campus level and regional staff 

  • to proactively resolve issues and discuss opportunities for process improvement. 

  • Handles escalations from the Financial Services Analysts, and also escalates his/her own issues to the Financial Services Manager. 

  •  Handles complaints and suggestions from Financial Services Analysts and/or internal customers 

IV. 

  • Assists in leading and developing others 

  •  Under the direction of the Financial Services Manager, provides individual and/or team training to minimize skill gaps required to be a successful Financial Services Analyst. 

  •  Assist others to improve their performance levels to achieve individual and group goals. 

  •  Resolves individual and group performance issues in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork. 

  •  Identifies opportunities to involve others in new and challenging work assignments that advance the skills and capabilities of individuals and the team. 

  • Assists in problem-solving to ensure the team achieves their daily/weekly goals 

  • Assists the Financial Services Manager with interviewing and hiring qualified candidates 


Education and Experience Required 

  • Associate’s degree (or equivalent experience and education) in Business, Finance, Accounting or 

related field 

  • 1-2 years of progressive financial aid experience 

  • Experience with student management software (e.g., CampusVue and Broadleaf) 

  • Solid working knowledge of federal/state government education regulations 

  • Knowledge of Title IV Compliance 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, CampusVue, and Broadleaf 

  • High level of integrity 

  • Strong sense of personal responsibility 

  • Ability to lead and recommend changes to mitigate exceptions 

  • Ability to operate in a dynamic & flexible environment with confidence and poise 

  • Ability to manage internal relationships at all organizations levels effectively 

  • Superior oral and written communication skills 

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills are a MUST 

  • Able to manage multiple documents and projects simultaneously 

  • Attention to detail 


Education and Experience Preferred 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related field 

  •  2-3 years progressive financial aid experience 

  •  1-2 years of experience with CampusVue and Broadleaf software
